Kevin Warsh just lost me. He argues he's going to be an independent Fed Chair, but refuses to acknowledge that Trump lost the 2020 election. If you can't state simple facts when you're in the political spotlight, you aren't independent. You're a coward.

As always: a thread on highlights from @ember-energy.org Nerd Easter global power sector data review!
With lots of good news, some noticeable kinda bad news, and a few things I think are missing from the picture. TY to Ember, this is such a valuable piece of work
Thrilled to be quoted in Grist, on Green Economic Populism:
"Fossil fuels are unreliable. They drive up your cost of living. They cause wars and people die. And if we make a green transition, that will make everyday life better for working people who are struggling."

Retooling the entire state to create explicitly unequal outcomes should fundamentally change the assumptions all climate and clean energy for profit businesses should operate on. Should.

Bombshell study that questions a key German electricity market policy.
tldr: DON'T SUBSIDISE NEW GAS PLANTS WITH PUBLIC MONEY!
Most interestingly: it was not (only) commissioned by the renewable industry but (i.a.) by one of DE's main business lobby groups (@dihk.bsky.social)!
A 🧵analysing it:
Chart shows annual heating bills for medium-sized home with an oil boiler (£1,476), an LPG boiler (£1,473) and a heat pump (£784), all at current energy prices. The heat pump is considerably cheaper to run, saving over £650
The UK government has announced £9,000 subsidies for households with oil and LPG boilers to get a heat pump.
This is seriously good deal for rural homes - not only does it lower the upfront cost, a mid-sized home could save over £650 a year by switching from oil to a heat pump at current prices...
Democrats should get louder in championing clean energy’s affordability and resilience from global shocks, according to some of the party’s leading voices on the climate.
From our friends at @theguardian.com:
everyone with real American manliness and a basic knowledge of military history knows that serious war efforts have never been derailed by such trifling matters as "communicable diseases"
BREAKING: The Southern Poverty Law Center says it faces investigation by Justice Department over past use of paid informants to infiltrate extremist groups.
New Yorkers will be at the governor's office today to ask her not to be a fossil fuel champion like Trump.
The idea that the gas industry is planning a "comeback" in New York in 2026 should disqualify any politician who is in charge.
Too many fossil fuel dems. Voters need to remedy that.
A map of the US showing home-insurance premiums as a percentage of household income by county. the highest percentages are in Florida, as you'd expect, but also vast swaths of the Midwest and South. Source: Bloomberg Intelligence
No place is immune to the impacts of a hotter planet. One example: People outside the usual suspects of Cali and Florida are suffering the most from soaring home-insurance premiums

"For the first time in nearly three decades, emissions in advanced economies grew faster than in emerging ones: rising by 0.5% in the former, while slowing to 0.3% growth in the latter."
Imagine that? The "advanced" countries will lead us to climate catastrophe.
Allowed in Maryland by new bill … but 😒 not free www.baltimoresun.com/2026/04/19/m...
There’s a real disconnect in anglosphere discourse because a lot of it centres in the US where people aren’t seeing Chinese EVs at all, while much of the rest of the world is
“A small number of extreme users constantly post fringe opinions, which creates the illusion that these views are far more widely held than they really are.”
This is a critical concept.
The most powerful tool for deception today is “selected speech” — billionaires boosting ideas they like…
Gil Duran tweet: TLDR: Fascism in response to Palantir's long fascists screed on X.
"Your Account is Suspended" Message on X
The CEO of Palantir posted a fascist manifesto on X.
I pointed out that it was fascist—which resulted in a permanent suspension from X (my second time!).
So, when you hear the tweeters complaining that BlueSky is intolerant, remember why many of us came here in the first place.

I am cosponsoring @repyassansari.bsky.social's Articles of Impeachment against Pete Hegseth.
With its aggressive push for offshore oil & gas production & deregulation frenzy (e.g., withdrawing protections of endangered whales as a national emergency), can we rely on Trump Administration to prevent another BP oil spill from this ultra-deep development? Gift 🔗

For @jewishcurrents.bsky.social I wrote about the decimation of the right to asylum. I went into the history of asylum, how it was formalized post the World Wars, how it was never properly implemented, and how its destruction paves the path for authoritarianism.

This should be a much bigger story.
The Trump administration is about to hand TotalEnergies, a French oil company, nearly $1 billion of your money to cancel its American offshore wind projects. And they are pulling the cash from an account they are not allowed to use this way.🧵
Long line of folks waiting to see Tom Steyer speak in Santa Barbara last week.
I went to see Tom Steyer's town hall in Santa Barbara last week. The line wrapped around the block before the doors even opened. Standing room only inside. Hundreds of people couldn't get in.
Whether or not the media is saying it: Steyer has momentum. And I was very impressed. THREAD!🧵
This was foreseeable.
In 2000, when gasoline prices hit a record, California recommended several steps it could have taken to lessen dependence on foreign oil sources.
The state didn't act.

I’m looking to talk to climate scientists/meteorologists who have analyzed Super Typhoon Sinlaku’s characteristics as it barreled through the Northern Mariana Islands, particularly the wind speed and how it seemingly stalled longer than usual. Please DM me!
THREAD: The IEA global energy review 2026
* CO2 record high, but growth nearly ground to halt
* Clean energy shaved 3bn tonnes off CO2
* Fossil-fuel power pushed into reverse
* Age of Electricity "confirmed"
* "Extraordinary" solar growth
* Batteries up 40%
* EVs up 20%

The rise in climate pollution from the US is 2025 canceled out the reductions from China, India, Japan, and the EU combined.
Story from 2017 but largely unchanged - BECCS (and indeed most "negative emissions") are largely a model fudge factor to hit emissions targets that are increasingly in the rear view mirror.
Cheap and easy to put CO2 in the atmosphere, hard and expensive to pull it out.
