Libraries are cornerstones of democracy. Unions are a tool to ensure libraries operate democratically. Union-busting is anti-democratic! Read more about the fight for our union at CML!

Columbus Metropolitan Library workers are proud of their jobs, proud of their co-workers, and proud of their union!
They began wearing union pins this week as they continue to organize for their union election later this spring!
Take action remind the library’s board and CEO that we filed for our election three months ago!! oft-aft.org/cml
Buttons that read “CML United Open to All” and “Library unions are rad!” On a Columbus Metropolitan Library lanyard.
It’s a great day to tell your local library worker that you support their right to unionize! @oftunion.bsky.social
hell yeah, I miss whittier 🩷
Greetings from inside the economic blockade zones of Minneapolis and St Paul! Don’t look away, please. We need you. It’s been a month and they’re trying to destroy us.
@talkingpointsmemo.com Aisha represents Ward 10, not Ward 3.
I do not regret to inform you that we are going to win.
They are never, ever going to win in Minnesota.
cbus city council told my boss, don’t waste our precious funding on union busting 🤘
Reupping this from last night.
If you're a library advocate or worker, you should be pissed. You should also be pissed if you're a taxpayer. MILLIONS of dollars have been stolen from you and from public libraries and museums to develop these propaganda trucks.
The administration brags on social.
semi-regular reminder that ICE was only created in 2003
when you are asked to imagine a world without ICE, you're basically being asked to remember where you were when Lilo & Stitch came out

all workers deserve a union 💕
I feel like if your AI company has to apologize to the estate of Martin Luther King Jr you should just flood your servers and walk into the ocean
“Maybe the intelligence we most need is the capacity to see beyond the hierarchies that determine which knowledge counts. Without that foundation, regardless of the hundreds of billions we pour into developing superintelligence, we’ll keep erasing knowledge systems that took generations to develop.”
Really infuriating stuff. There's no place for AI in the classroom. AFT needs to follow the lead of @aaup.org and understand that these technologies are part of the increasing move to corporatize the classroom.
One thing you can do Right Now is be extremely vocal when you have librarians stocking inclusive collections. Call and tell them how happy you are, show up to board meetings. Bc the other side is *always* complaining and doing it in an organized way.
also you can donate to Lavonnia Moore here:
Google search "do apples contain lycopene?" The AI overview says "No, apples do not contain lycopene" whereas the highlighted search result begins "Apples contain lycopene"
the modern information environment
Similes like this are so helpful; it seems really obvious when you say it out loud but there is a genuine perspective shift when you're emphatic that the point of your teaching is not to create 15 essays, but 15 students who can write an essay.
Grateful to see some public dissent at the Ohio Statehouse on my way home from the library today.
EPA, CDC, USAID and other data sites of federal government are all down or being scrubbed of long-term data that WE THE TAXPAYERS paid for. I teach with these tools! Why are our universities saying nothing about loss of access to information and research implications? I cannot believe the silence 🧪

1916 OSU sociologists say beware the moral hazard of “loafing”.
I’ve lived next to a “land grant” university my entire life and until recently grossly misunderstood that the physical land that the university is on is not the “land” that was “granted”. Shout out to @highcountrynews.bsky.social for this excellent journalism!
Bad news for folks.
