Worst: Reviewer 2
It is totally normal. I like to project myself in "what topic would I choose if I was starting my PhD today?"
It is not unusual to receive 5-10 review request a day. I admit I do not answer to all of them because the process is at least 3-5 min/request. Publishers need to change their approach!
can we?
Reliability, fixability, spare part availability are all criteria that are important to get the platforms run for years. There is also the need to sale/buy the best fit. Sometimes, you get the newest/more expensive instrument, only because it is sexy on grant applications.
Academics have always been complainers.

Infographic titled 'Powering Europe's Chemical Sector' with the European Commission logo in the top-right corner. The graphic highlights that the chemical sector contributes to 96% of manufactured goods, generated €655 billion in turnover in 2023, supports 1.2 million direct jobs, and 19 million jobs across other supply chains. At the bottom, it states: 'Action Plan for the EU Chemical Industry'.
👩🔬 So, you think you don’t use chemicals? Think again.
The EU chemical industry powers much of the stuff we use in daily life: from clean tech to life-saving medicines.
We are rolling out a plan to support this vital sector ↓

I had the opportunity to give my perspective to The Analytical Scientist about recent events. With this article, I hope to give a voice to others who may not have the ability to speak out. #StandUpForScience

It is probably the cheapest way to acknowledge the free labor of reviewers :D
Yesterday, the NIH abruptly terminated all grants focused on vaccine hesitancy. This kind of work is critical as vaccine misinformation proliferates on social media. One of my last papers showed that many people who refused the COVID19 booster did so because they had incorrect information.
What is wrong with us?
