another wonderful thing about the ga bu mini-arc is that it's such a wonderful character payoff from coils being about alisaie's grief for louisoix. she's figured out how to live with her grief and now she can use that understanding as a force for good in the world.

alisaie: i was disappointed. i was angry. i could not fathom how these people were more deserving of his love than his family... than me...

alisaie: there were times... when i faltered - when i was afraid. but then i thought of my brother, of urianger, of you...

she was such a lonely kid. that's such a foundational part of her character to me. she holds on tight to the people she does have - her grandfather, her brother, urianger, and eventually the wol. her maturation was learning to direct her experiences into fierce empathy for the overlooked underdogs.

the ga bu mini-arc is so so so good and lays very important foundations for improvement on how non-playable peoples are treated by the game. and alisaie is so funny and empathetic - you immediately adore her and care for her. it's so well-written and it's what she deserves!!!!

i COMPLETELY forgot you have to do titan hard again for ga bu and i was like "oh my god lmao are they kidding". but i had also forgotten that the dialogue changes to be sad ga bu!!!! i was screaming and hollering and wailing!!!!!!!!!

she was never a popular child. and following the loss of louisoix i think she retreated even further into herself. maybe she could have absorbed some of alphinaud's popularity, but she was just miserable and trying to numb it with keeping up with her academic work.

and alphinaud believing himself the main character, the true heir to the leveilleur name (rather than their father), captain of every academic team, the youngest studium entrant, driven by his own ambitions while alisaie (also incredibly intelligent!) tried to find meaning in her grief

i don't think they were getting along well post-calamity and during arr... of course they loved each other always. but alisaie felt so so so isolated following the loss of louisoix and the absence of the circle, and angry and depressed and always a lonely child -

alisaie: strange - i would've thought you eager to remain in the thick of the action. but if this is what you would prefer, then godsspeed, brother.

alisaie: twould not surprise me if alphinaud's recent maturation was at least somewhat due to her (matoya) sage guidance. i would never tell him this, of course, but there have been moments when i've caught myself thinking of him as an elder brother...

it's very charming and nicely subtle to see alphinaud's character growth through alisaie's little comments

alisaie: do you know that there are collectors who will pay a fortune for beastmen ritual artifacts? it is perverse.

alisaie: what sort of twisted monster would consider a ritual focus a work of art, knowing full well how it was made? and we call them beastmen.

i love alisaie sooooo much... she has so much empathy and compassion. this is around the mention that these ritual foci are made from bones of people sacrificed by their own to summon primals. (also a nod to arr patches gear upgrade systems lmao)

the reason alphinaud doesn't recognize her at xelphatol is bc he hasn't seen her without her hood and goggles since she went through her second growth. for no reason. for no reason

urianger held the twins when they were days old. she watched them hold onto furniture until they walked on their own. she helped them learn to read. she went to their recitals and presentations and birthdays. while one twin said goodbye to louisoix (for the last time), the other said goodbye to her.
