Taxes can be shifted off income to other things like consumption, land, wealth, transactions, etc as ways of helping to manage inflation, although inflation will be less of a concern in a deflationary environment of AI.
You're asking the wrong question if your primary concern is taxes in order to enable government spending.
UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME is a necessity as is free healthcare, free education. We must learn to live, not just exist.
You aren't being serious if you're not talking about universal basic income as the main way of distributing the productivity benefits of automation. 4-day weeks and universal healthcare are needed to, but they don't make it so that EVERYONE benefits. Only UBI does that.
Reminder that anyone crowing about how AI and robots will be doing All The Jobs but is not also pushing hard for Universal Basic Income is actively working towards full-scale economic collapse.
Yes, there is confusion, because lots of people don't understand the point of UBI being a foundational base, and not what goes on top of the base. Elon isn't helping.

UBI is meant to be a floor. That is its purpose. The higher the better I think, to a point, but to think UBI needs to be some amount below which it "isn't enough" is thinking of UBI as a replacement for jobs, which it isn't.
I disagree. I love watching the video but I also enjoy listening to the albums on Spotify. Over and over and over.

This is the definition of UBI.
A periodic cash payment unconditionally delivered to all on an individual basis, without means test or work requirement.
Do you see anything in there about replacing all programs? No?
I'm not bullying you. Words have definitions.
Great, and thank you. Just providing people more evidence on Bsky.
FYI
However, we also found that the program improved participants’ artistic output, including the time they could dedicate to their art and their satisfaction with the quality and the impact of their work.” ‘What art could we produce as a society if our artists could invest more time and money in their craft?’ Stephen Roll The GI program was found to reduce financial stress and debt; increase artists’ ability to invest time in their art; increase motivation and productivity; and improve mental health, while showing no reduction in other sources of income.
2,400 artists in NYC got $1,000 per month in basic income for 18 months beginning in 2022. Same as in Ireland, the results were overwhelmingly positive. Artists spent more time on their art and became more satisfied with the quality and impact of their work.
DO UBI

Here’s why we should have a basic income for artists program

Four-panel meme from Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones featuring Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala in a grassy outdoor setting. Top-left: Anakin looks off to the side with a serious, contemplative expression. Text: “WE SHOULD END POVERTY.” Top-right: Padmé smiles slightly, wearing a floral headband. Text: “SO YOU SUPPORT BASIC INCOME, RIGHT?” Bottom-left: Anakin faces forward with a more intense, unreadable expression. No text. Bottom-right: Padmé’s expression shifts to concern and uncertainty. Text: “YOU DON’T MEAN KILLING EVERYONE IN POVERTY, RIGHT?”
Gerrymandering can backfire. It just did in Hungary. It just needs massive turnout is all. So don't lose hope, and come November, make sure and vote to oust them. Then we have to make sure Democrats do the many things they need to do, like ending gerrymandering and dumping winner-take-all voting.
UBI itself creates more opportunities and more ability to find the right one for you.
The fact that UBI hasn’t already been implemented is shameful.
"The pilot participants who received assistance were given $1k in the first month and then $600 for the following 11 months. The results showed recidivism fell, and self-sufficiency and mental health improved, all resulting in net savings for taxpayers."

If Canada had UBI, Saskatchewan would still have my alternative newspapers Prairie Dog and Planet S covering civil society, climate action, human rights, harm reduction and urban planning among other civilized things. I really gotta write about this… somewhere…
A timely reminder that AI isn't the only growing threat to employment, the accelerating switch to sustainable energy sources both moves and reduces jobs, further increasing the urgent necessity for #UBI.

“Basic income has been shown to reduce health care costs, including an 8.5% reduction in hospitalizations. As Dr. Danielle Martin [the newly elected Liberal MP in today’s by-election] has so pointedly said, “If we discovered a drug that reduced hospitalizations by 8.5%, we’d put it in the water.”
Nonsense. UBI doesn't end all programs. It can replace some programs but hardly any UBI advocate suggests replacing universal healthcare with cash.
And this is why I am for universal basic income. There is already a system in place whereby people acquire basic needs, people just need the means to participate. The most fiscally conservative things to do are UBI and universal healthcare.
From out of all of that, comes the two most natural reasons for a UBI.
One, it would give employees the freedom to not accept a particular job.
Two, it would give employers more employees who actually believe in what the company is trying to do instead of people who are just in it for the money.
That is some really stupid logic. Alaska has had a UBI for over 40 years. Do you think they could easily end it? Something everyone gets and counts on every year? They hate it and want it to go away?
It's welfare that is easy to mess with because so few people get it.
Workers need more power. I want to ask how these people could work in these conditions. But of course they did. They couldn’t risk paychecks or benefits.
We need UBI and employers need to be more afraid of the collective power of their workers.
As a kid, I thought the concept behind Bill and Ted was unrealistic. I mean come on, a rock band leading to world peace and time travel through its music? Impossible.
Now I'm like, "Ohhhhhhhhhh ✋🔺🤚"
I know, right? Every comment section on any AdP video is like humanity giving each other a celebratory hug.
