This is another escalation that will have, I fear, even more of an impact on oil prices than all we’ve borne so far combined. Note how he waited for markets to close. All eyes on oil futures on Monday #econsky

Americans Are Leaving the U.S. in Record Numbers More citizens are replanting overseas, drawn by a quality of life made easily affordable by the U.S.’s enviable salaries.

This is such a well done piece that reports out, with hard data and interviews, something profound about what's gone wrong in this country.

The sheer scale of the corruption - announced just today - is astounding and shameful.

The 2028 tour for Dems shifted up a gear this month. Kamala rebooted campaign HQ. Pete is coming to NH. Gavin is just gooning from CA to Davos. Things are heating up.

ICE detainees from Maine being held under ‘inhumane’ conditions in Mass. facility, attorneys say An Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson said the allegations of overcrowding and lack of access to lawyers are false.

“They’re trapped in this little confinement cell, a dark cell with no sunlight, with multiple people,” said Shaan Chatterjee, an attorney at New England Immigration Law. “They’re basically torturing people into signing off on their own deportation.”

The news oscillates from bad to very bad. But the NASCAR season starts in earnest this week, and that is unironically making me happy. Can't be sad when car go fast.

Robert Kagan and Marianne Williamson: Slipping Into Dictatorship Donald Trump is going to do everything he can to hold onto his near monopoly on power after the midterms.

Very much worth watching Robert Kagan with Tim Miller. No happy talk, but important and bracing talk: Trump is going to do everything he can to hold onto his near monopoly on power. Anything to stall or stop a Democratic Congress in 2027. Who’s going to stop him?

Taking a $40 million loss on an ego-greasing documentary is worth it to keep tens of billions in govt contracts.

Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.

I think this post nails the actual problem, for researchers at least—AI hallucinations would simply not be a problem in academic work if we’d not normalized citation-as-signaling rather than actual engagement—you can only cite a fake paper if you’re not in the habit of reading the papers you cite

Trump is a lame duck and people have realized it. That’s actually a really important step!

Just adding— each question was roughly a 90-10 issue within each party. Fairly lopsided, but not totally unusual to find Dems sympathetic to the governors argument on Q2 or MAGA types who just get red flag, no questions asked (think abt how Florida has red flag and it’s just the norm)

I did my own poll/survey in April- and the partisan relationship on these two questions that I found then came out to be absolutely true.

For roughly every R that supported Q2, there was a D that supported Q1.

But anti-Trump sentiment gave Ds the turnout juice they needed.

Correcting myself -- they do provide the full question wording in the results document, but do not specify what was displayed to respondents on their screen as they completed the survey.

On the ME Sen point -- this type of poll can have some utility in tracking the horse race. So long as the same panel gets asked about the race every few months, it is worth watching the trendline.

I think that was the purpose of this poll, and they included the ballot questions for extra attention.

Some issues:
1- its an online panel of recruited participants not a random sample
2- the turnout model relied on a simple self-report that was then weighted to the ACS and 2024 results (for predicting off-year referenda, this makes no sense)
3- they didn't even use the ballot question wording

I knew this was a garbage poll when I read it, but it did give me heartburn.

State-level polling is more difficult (and expensive) than ever, and very few pollsters can/will invest enough to do it right.

Let's remember this over the next year as national attention on us turns up! #mepolitics

I don’t think any of their current staff have any Maine experience. Their finance report shows a bunch of employees from out of state using the campaign PO Box as their address to mask that fact.
