See also: Kākā, Kererū, a Hihi. And a lot of others! But not a ton of other birds I got super crisp photos of. I'm on a mission to see for the first time and photograph Ruru, and while I've seen both a single Tītitipounamu and many Pīwakawaka, actually getting a fully-focused photo eludes me.

It's a small, rounded oval of a bird, with a small head and beak, and large beady black eyes. Its head, back, and tailfeathers are a mottled grey, with a mottled lighter undercoat on its belly. Its legs are splayed out on either side, with an orange and silver band visible on one. Behind the image is out-of-focus greenery.

Its visible leg- the other leg than the one in the last picture- is banded with plastic bird bands, with a blue band on top and a white band below. Its facing off to the right.
Once again going to the bird sanctuary is a good way to cure your mental health. I did a longer route than necessary, had to stop to rest, rehydrate, and take my inhaler, and I was rewarded with a visit from this delightfully curious Toutouwai! And a couple others further down the trail.
