That makes sense. With necromancy at their disposal I'm sure they want to keep the doors open and encourage more feedstock, err, adventures to come visit.

Do the various parties have little booths outside the dungeon trying to hire adventurers as political agents during elections?

That sounds interesting in either form!
Giving the players clearly designated factions to interact with, and a timeline for helping with those goals, gives clear direction and way to foster player engagement in the setting.

I played the first one and enjoyed it. Didn't know there was a second one coming out!

Caves of Qud is very enjoyable. The lore is fun and it has a good depth of character customisation.
The graphics take some getting used to. They added a graphical interface which does make things a bit smoother.

At this point I play mostly deck builders or turn based ( Cave of Qud!) Which have built in pause points.

There is something to be said for the suspense that can be created fighting/fleeing to the next save point. However, to be honest, I don't play those games anymore because I can't guarantee I have that amount of time.
Perhaps it could just be an option to switch off.

It doesn't work so well for people who know I answer messages on my phone though.

I agree fully. I would disable them if I could. Best I can do is having a quick reply saying that "I don't have speakers on this device. Please send text messages only." To send to anyone who sends a voice message.
