Maybe the thought is that the public doesn’t want to address the climate crisis. We must do it in a stealthy manner that won’t trigger them. Can’t inconvenience the public.

Half-formed thought: A surprising number of energy dudes repeatedly claim that working to constrain fossil fuel supply is Bad Actually and won't accelerate energy transitions like greens think it will, so we should only talk about demand.

How do these dudes explain Hormuz accelerating transitions?

I think it is a common belief in certain policy circles.

I don’t know why. And I don’t know why they supported him in the first place. He seems like the same guy, just unleashed a bit, so with more of the stuff they liked?

Cool! I wonder what they will use it for.

I’m patiently waiting for consumers to demand a heat pump logo on packaged foods and beverages, chips and beer for example, since those are a really good fit for heat pumps.

But I suspect this one is not for a BASF Pilsner.

This is important work to help Europe avoid the mistakes it made during the Russian gas shock.

One friendly amendment would be to push even harder on electrification because of vulnerability to US political leverage.

Trump has been handed a weapon. He hates the EU, and he wants Greenland.

Too much gridlock in this country.

I think not enough people understand that the pushback against renewables and EV's is money.

Without getting too in the weeds: renewables cannot ever be as profitable as oil and gas.

EV's don't make as much money as gas guzzlers.

That's it. That's all you really need to know.

Exclusive: Merino Energy Launches an All-in-One Heat Pump for $3,800 The startup from Quilt and Gradient alums emerges from stealth today.

The heat pump startup, Merino, did its first commercial installations last week at an affordable housing project in Richmond, California. Their mild climate monoblock costs a flat $3800 to have installed.

I assume they will do what is in their personal interest, financially and politically, and I don’t see how a nuclear bomb would change the calculus.

Some think their vote is a nice expression of their belief in a particular value or idea, and not a vote for a candidate that is a person and thus an entire package of values and ideas.

A climate activist and a gas executive walk into a bar — Outside/In How a first-in-the country geothermal project brought a pair of unlikely allies together.

Electric heat pumps are the main way to outgrow air and climate pollution from burning fossil fuels to heat buildings. Air-source heat pumps are the most cost-effective technology in most settings today, but in the coldest, densest cities, networked geothermal heat pumps may make sense. Quick🧵

The speech seemed clear to me, but maybe I’m interpolating too much: bomb them more and then leave. Let the adults in other countries clean up the mess.

A chart from gasbuddy.com showing national retail gasoline average price over the last three months, at ~$2.90/gal until Trump bombed Iran. The price has risen steadily to ~$4.06/gal today.

If you're interested to know if an EV will save you money in cost per mile for a comparable car, just multiply your electricity cost in $/kWh (national avg. is $0.19/kWh) by 10. Then compare to the cost of gas in $/gallon (national avg. is ~$4.06/gal). That's it. More details in thread below. 🔌💡 1/

I wish I knew. One third of voters love this and I have no idea what would change their minds. And another portion think of their vote as an expression of their values, not as an expression of who they would like to win, so they vote for a candidate that fits their values well but can’t win.

Opinion | This Energy Crisis Is Going to Change the World

One month in to the war, some people are ready to call it. This energy shock will accelerate the world to a cleaner, more electrified future.

“Electrification will be seen as the shock absorber,” says @70sbachchan.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2026/04/01/o...

A “trust me bro” audit would seem to be missing the whole point of an audit, especially when the client under audit has an adversarial relationship with the regulations.

Quote: “do not involve auditors carrying out independent emissions measurements on site.”

This is a very interesting initiative from Australia that deserves widespread attention: 18 requirements for consumer energy resource (CER) devices to support interoperability and resilience. It also considers whether these are already covered by current standards.

Many homes already have the power to electrify, study finds A California power provider shows homes can ditch fossil-fueled appliances without pricey electrical service upgrades after all.

Turns out a lot of folks who thought they needed to upgrade their electrical panels to ditch gas appliances — which is not cheap! — may not actually have to: www.canarymedia.com/articles/ele... via @alisontakemura.bsky.social
