Say Goodbye to Small-Town Libraries and Museums, Thanks to Trump’s Latest Cuts The NEH budget is tiny. The loss is huge.

My Slate piece on the widespread NEH grant cancellations is live. So much gratitude to everyone who took the time to talk with me these past few days while fighting fires on every side.

The @humanitiesall.bsky.social has a resource, NEH for All, w data about the impact of the NEH locally and nationally. Yes, it is important to right now use the contact and advocacy resources, but it's also critical, imho, to read, gather, & share this info w family &community. www.nehforall.org

For folks who don’t know, ethnic studies programs like African American/Africana Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicano Studies and the like come directly from civil right era campus activism. Attempts to disempower such programs should be framed as attacks on civil rights same as much else rn.

My family issued the following after Medgar Evers was partially removed from the Arlington National Cemetery website under the direction of the Department of the Army.

“It is a spit in the face to all who have served, honored, and fought for this country,” said Myrlie Evers.

Oklahoma proposes teaching standards suggesting 2020 election ‘discrepancies’ A new social studies agenda approved by the education board would require high-schoolers to review baseless claims related to President Trump’s 2020 election loss.

If passed the state of Oklahoma will no longer be teaching history. #sschat #historyteacher www.washingtonpost.com/education/20...

Fantastic group of students working in groups discussing their reading assignments

I was late to class because a meeting went long. When I finally made it, my students had simply started working on their own, splitting up in groups and discussing their readings. Pretty good teaching moment!

This is what's so baffling about so many suggestions for AI in the humanities classroom: they mistake the product for the point. Writing outlines and essays is important not because you need to make outlines and essays but because that's how you learn to think with/through complex ideas.

It’s finally done! My OA article in the Journal of British Studies is out today on political reform in George III’s early reign and the roots of the American Revolution.

For anyone interested in maps, politics and how authoritarian systems rise from liberalism and frankly who isn’t these days?
