Now that’s what I’m talking about! I love this song so much and she gets no love.

So exciting!!!
Yesterday morning kids were sent running from their bus stop in panic because ICE showed up. This guy at today’s ICE Out of Lindenwold protest is a must watch 😭. @maddow.bsky.social
one of the reasons everybody hates late arrivals from the right or even the center is they're all weepy little idiots who want to be coddled and forgiven and make it everybody else's problem. shut up, figure out how to help fix what you broke, and stop writing thinkpieces
December 25 The Company of the Ring leaves Rivendell at dusk.
December 25th. The day the Fellowship departs Rivendell to destroy the One Ring.
Whatever you celebrate, may you have the courage to take the first steps to defy and endure against the dark, and rekindle light into the world.
Have returned to blue books and would love to go to oral exams but it’s untenable with the number of students I have every semester.
Bluesky purity discourse? I was replying to the post that was specifically wondering how universal their own perspective was.
Most students are going to apply to local schools: community colleges and state universities. Most students are not going to small liberal arts schools. The idea we’re all just able to flee red states is weirdly privileged.
I teach “western civ” courses that would, on the surface, adhere to these loose guidelines, but how I cover the material wouldn’t. It’s a lot of fun. I think “the canon” is useful as an idea to teach with even at an introductory level. It’s not a perfect metaphor here, but I try to tell it slant.
Same-home away from home.
A large portion my BA to PhD was completed at a small window table at Borders, usually accompanied by a chai latte or one the delicious cheese stuffed soft pretzels they made. So yummy. I miss those pretzels. They were open til 11, 7 days a week.
@pixiestyx75.bsky.social hi!
Screenshot from statement “Universities and colleges have one mission: to advance knowledge. Faculty carry out the mission by conducting research and teaching students. The knowledge they produce and circulate is independently assessed by professional peers. Interfering with that process by forcing knowledge to pass through a political filter is a tactic adopted by the Soviet Union and other authoritarian states. The White House is dressing up its compact as a reasonable corrective to what it views as problems in campus culture. Let no one be deceived. This proposal imposes government censorship on academia. It is anti-American, and it weakens our democracy by devaluing academic expertise.”
ACLS statement against White House “compact”: THIS IS SOVIET SHIT
I’ve repeatedly said to admin if you want me to devote SLAC level attention to my students, I need you to give me SLAC course loads and seat caps.
Not a 100% fix and having PDF will be better, but clearing history and cookies will reset the article limit.
“the tent shrank” translation, “the tent got bigger, AND I was asked to think about my own complicity in structural inequalities, where before I could be assured in my liberal bonafides, and that made me feel icky in my tummy.”
Josh RR Jokien @joshcarlosjosh “I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “lmao" said Gandalf, “well it has.” 10:32 AM · Aug 6, 2021
We have allowed the lazy, grifting Silicon Valley charlatans into the front door, & in doing so, we have learned just how many of our own colleagues & administrators simply are not interested in the actual business of education. It's incredibly demoralizing.

Indeed.
LLMs are LLMs.
Machine learning is machine learning.
AIs are Astro Boy, Robby the Robot, Cmdr Data, the Ghost in the Shell Puppet Master, etc. I will not use the term for anything less.
Don’t feed the hype machine. Don’t call it AI.
A protester outside an ICE detention facility marches through clouds of irritant gas carrying American flags. A sign lying on the pavement by his feet reads “EVERY ICE AGENT WILL BE HELD TO ACCOUNT.”
I hope some newspapers use a crop where you can easily read the sign.
You also need to say this shit when people get fired for mentioning their personal gender or get roughed up for looking at ICE the wrong way.
Come the fuck on. If you believe this, believe it for everyone.
Photograph of a screenshot of the erased banksy image with shadows of iron bars/railings projected on it posted by Lesley @lesthecroc with the comment “they removed it” quote posted by the archbishop of banterbury with the comment: “The Shadows of those bars are so Symbolic”
Found an even better image of it on face thing:
It’s party of how AI isn’t creating new problems just highlighting ones that were already there but easily overlooked depending on one’s institutional situation.
Sure, but many faculty over the years have either ignored content creep foisted on lower division courses because it didn’t impact them in the same way. Perhaps had greater attention been made or support given, AI literacy creep may not have been so easily thrown into everyone’s laps.
I mean, everything about this thread is correct. However the shoehorning of learning outcomes or skills unrelated to a course’s objectives is something those of us in the gen ed trenches have had to do for at least a decade. I don’t teach writing but boy do I have to teach writing. So, uh, welcome.
Did he at least have y’all walk around campus during class too? In robes?
Would read this and the series that followed.
Why do I follow any given account? I saw them say something funny/interesting or they liked one of my stupider/more obscure jokes.
Will report back in a few weeks. I cannot believe we’ve completed two already.
