Fast forward to today and I'm on the ship for the first time waiting to depart the Falklands for Rothera. Could not be more excited for this totally unexpected chance thanks to @biopole.bsky.social @cpom-uk.bsky.social 🐬

In 2021 I got to see the finished ship when she docked at Greenwich before her first trip to Antarctica. I got to come and talk polar science with @cosmicshambles.com and @helenczerski.bsky.social but my science was still very firmly on the ice ❄️

In 2016 @tjy511.bsky.social and I were lucky enough to be invited to the keel laying for the RRS Sir David Attenborough through @ukpolarnetwork.bsky.social. Neither of us ever expected to go on the ship but there was a free breakfast and we almost got a selfie with the man himself 🚢
