1/8 🧵 Breaking: Groundbreaking study drops in Psychedelics!
Psilocybin's effects on social behavior & inflammation in female mice modeling anorexia nervosa? TOTALLY context-dependent on metabolism & exercise. Explains why only ~40% respond in human trials. Implications for personalized therapy!

After a busy semester of teaching it is so nice to be at the Biological Psychiatry Australia Conference. First up today is @foldi.bsky.social and team with the development of a 'library of animal models', which sounds like a fantastic resource for researchers studying clinical symptoms/disorders

Toward a Genetic Signature of Resistance to Activity‐Based Anorexia in Striatal Projecting Cortical Neurons Objective Converging evidence from neuroimaging studies and genome-wide association study (GWAS) suggests the involvement of prefrontal cortex (PFC) and striatum dysfunction in the pathophysiology o...

Incredibly proud of @kxhuang.bsky.social for persisting with such a challenging dataset from her PhD! We found some intriguing genetic targets in a corticostriatal circuit that may be involved in the development of #anorexia nervosa 🤔 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

Writing this was like any other act of love - awkward at the start, frustrating at times, but something to be proud of. Very grateful to Dr Kristi Griffiths for agreeing to take on this challenge with me for @natrevneuro.nature.com

For those hurting after DP EOI outcomes today, courtesy of ChatGPT (I prompted with the first line, it will have to go over 2 posts as it's too long):

Oh ARC, why won't you fund me?
I’ve written papers, set them free,
With research deep and insights bright,
Yet still, no grant, no guiding light.

Our paper is out in DPP! This is the SECOND paper from my lab, but the first headed entirely by summer students: College senior Benjamin Babaev and High school senior Saachi Goyal (!!). They also created an easy to use site so anyone can use the machine learning resource for staging estrous cycle

“To write well is to think clearly” - which is to say that by delegating more and more of your writing effort to AI, you are inviting the slow erosion of your own ability to think clearly.

My favourite fun fact is that their (supposedly hectic) stank is referred to as “peccary perfume” and I think that is just so sweet

All I have seen on here for days is #ACNP2024 posts and the pain of jealousy hurts more than the unquestionable jetlag that would accompany such a trip. How does an extra-US gal like me score an invite for 2025?
