“YEAH!” Zoey yelled. She punched her fist up. “That’s amazing!” The girl appeared right in front of him as if she had always been there. Then, Mira melted out from behind the curtain, too. “I have to admit,” said Mira with a smirk, “your new duet is going to be a banger.” “When you guys debut the song tonight, everyone will love it. I know it,” Zoey added with an enthusiastic nod. Jinu’s mouth was dry. “But—” From beside him, a soft, melodic laugh interrupted his chaotic thoughts. He glanced to his right, seeing Rumi as if for the first time. She was wearing a pair of cream-colored sweats and a hoodie that matched, her purple hair braided neatly behind her, the end of the tail swinging. In the bright stage light, the patterns on her skin sparkled, iridescent with life. “You were great, Jinu,” Rumi said. And truly, that was all that mattered.
