Inside The Wire 507: Delphine Dora
Often singing in an invented language, the French composer channels poetry, spiritual writings and folk traditions in a search for a deeper experience of inner life

‘She wanted to disappear in silence’: the magical life and mysterious death of married musician duo Irena and Vojtěch Havlovi
I wrote about the pilgrimage of Irena & Vojtech Havlovi, whose music will continue to unmoor attentive listeners from time, for The Guardian.

I reviewed this dream-pop-country jewel by @wendyeisenberg.bsky.social, which feels like a strong early contender for album-of-the-year lists. There are songs you could write books about, or at least essays. More for @thequietus.com, "et cetera, et cetera".

Mighty Sunn O))) hailing from the freshly printed Wire. I wrote a piece on otherworldly Delphine Dora, a French composer and pianist with a labyrinthine catalogue of dreamworks. As always, you can find more exciting stuff inside, including Irmin Schmidt taking the Invisible Jukebox test. Go dig!
Stunning looking new @thewiremagazine.bsky.social out!
Inside I reviewed a new BEAM SPLITTER album and a couple of concerts involving the brilliant Emilie Škrijelj & Tom Malmendier.
And! Interview with Delphine Dora by @miloshroch.bsky.social I’m excited to read. And! the mighty SUNN 0)))!!!!
Her brother confirmed today that Irena, aged 66, had passed away last October, almost exactly a year after Vojtěch. Her last wish was to disappear in silence. They achieved the tightest communion of two people, in sound & silence. I wrote about their extraordinary journey for @thequietus.com

Delphine Dora - L’ineluctable pulsation du temps album cover. Etching-style illustration of a pond with the surface of the water reflecting trees.
'Different temporalities are woven into the album’s composition: brisk, fleeting cycles of piano arpeggios, as if chasing the foam of days, are layered with sustained droning synths, symbolising the persistence of time.'

What's happening to you, Milton? It's a big old Guardian feature, that's what. With a film about Ted, made by his own family, coming soon, I chatted with him about his poetry, puppetry and wayward life and times, with Roger Law of Spitting Image spitting facts

Great to see dälek (by @jjstannard.bsky.social) and Zu (by @miloshroch.bsky.social) getting some well-deserved attention in @thewiremagazine.bsky.social!
On my end, I reviewed Polish group Oberkas Travel, who reinterpret traditional oberek dance songs in a wild contemporary jazz/improv/psych key.
díky za společný psaní editorialu a výběr tý překladový eseje, je to fakt dobrý - stejná trasa jako Sebald v Saturnových prstencích, Eno v On Land, Fisher ve Weird and Eerie
nová Ádvojka je tu. téma China Miéville připravil @miloshroch.bsky.social, spolu s @ondrejtrhon.bsky.social udělali s Miévillem rozhovor a oba tam mají výborné texty. obálka Alexey Klyuykov. mně bylo potěšením napsat si s Milošem editorial a citovat tam z Nádraží Perdido:

V aktuálním Respektu píšu o albu It's In the Rafters Now, na němž se Freddy Ruppert vyrovnává s nedávnou smrtí otce i vzdáleností, kterou mezi sebou měli.

Trump, in a new @theatlantic.com interview: "We do need Greenland, absolutely. We need it for defense." Congratulations to all the Europeans who are applauding the foreign policy of the current U.S. administration—very smart indeed.
Woah, shocked/very flattered, amongst some very big hittas and personal faves !
Thx so much to #stevebarker for naming The Bug vs @ghostdubs.bsky.social 'IMPLOSION' as the 'Dub / Reggae album of the year' @thewiremagazine.bsky.social !!
BIG compliment from such a pillar of dub/reggae wisdom.

Yes! @thewiremagazine.bsky.social nails the top 50!
For the issue, I had the great pleasure of interviewing Tristan Perich.
I also profiled @adambdonoval.bsky.social's Warm Winters Ltd, penned the regular and year-end Avant Rock columns, reviewed the new Anna von Hausswolff, and reflected on 2025.
Can't stop blasting Implosion by The Bug vs Ghost Dubs. The album's slowness and heaviness of basslines (and their spectral dub) remind me of sludge. This is massive.
