Movie props, prototypes, and more could get wrapped up in the new 3D printing blocking mandates being considered in NY and CA. Beyond censorship, this could enable manufacturers to surveil and lock in users. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

Defeating wear sensors is a journey. There's a surprising variety of strategies manufacturers use!

I find prosciutto to be a good choice when sliced paper thin. Defeats photoplethysmography sensors, anyway

The Media's Pivot to AI Is Not Real and Not Going to Work AI is not going to save media companies, and forcing journalists to use AI is not a business model.

I did not write a new blog about tech journalists using AI but let me leave this from last summer right here

Probably just a thought-terminating cliché to associate the thing du jour with high value unknown to the listener, making any counter easy to dismiss as rude.

Or, a nominally "polite" way to bulldoze the listener on something to make it uncomfortable to contest. That kind of phrase sucks out loud.

The Metaverse Doesn't Have a Leg to Stand On It was a rocky year for the tech industry. To understand why, look no further than the "embodied internet."

Here lies yet another fundamentally bad idea that would never have worked. It never sold.

RIP metaverse

An under-discussed consequence of generative AI: to prove *your* scientific text is human-authored and should be taken seriously, you'll have to show your credentials, which benefits people with privilege and harms people without it.
