In the last few years I've read a few and been a bit shocked by the lack of care and lack of research. So tbh, your worst effort would still be quite readable in comparison. My suggestion would be to go ahead.
I have to assume the editing is light touch on this series nowadays. I've read some pretty poorly written ones in the last few years.
