Today & every day, we're calling on governments in developing nations to make HCV treatment accessible to high-risk populations. Testing. Treatment. No more barriers.

With Médecins du Monde, TAG built WorthTheCure.org, a hub for the latest HCV science, training resources for communities, and awareness art by New Yorkers affected by HCV.
"Despite DAAs curing HCV in just 8–12 weeks, treatment still costs $500+. Pharma companies promised to lower costs to $60 for low-to-middle income countries and haven't followed through. We're calling them out."
— TAG Acting HCV Project Director Joelle Dountio O.
Today is #WorldLiverDay! 🩺
Hepatitis C (HCV) can lead to liver cancer if untreated, yet 95%-effective cures (DAAs) exist. The problem isn't science. It's access.
A thread on what TAG is doing about it. 🧵
"Congress passing the budget to ensure essential PEPFAR programs are being funded globally and the White House refusing to release the funding… is absolutely disgusting and dangerous. Millions of folks are going to suffer and potentially die."
-Kendall Martinez-Wright, TAG (arrested today)

Congress has approved PEPFAR funds for the last TWO years, despite Vought's efforts to gut the program. Now, the President's 2027 budget request eliminates HIV-specific programming entirely and cuts global health funding by $4 BILLION
(3/4)
Our direct action led to arrests. But our message was heard loud and clear: Vought must be held accountable for his blatant attempts to destroy life-saving health programs like the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
(2/4)
🧵 "PEPFAR saves lives, spend the money!"
Today, HIV/AIDS activists and former USAID employees took that message directly to OMB Director Russell Vought during a congressional hearing in D.C. and they weren't leaving quietly.

TAG presents "What TB Treatment Advocates Need to Know about Active TB Drug Safety Monitoring & Pharmacovigilance (aDSM/PV)". 🫁
New shorter, all-oral DR-TB regimens (BPaL/M, BEAT, endTB) are a game-changer, but pharmacovigilance is key.

The CDC paused testing for rabies, mpox, measles, and plans to permanently cut dozens of others. With a 20% workforce cut and 41% budget slash proposed, this is a public health crisis in the making. Reinstate testing now.

The Global Fund's Grant Cycle 8 is now open and countries that move quickly will be best positioned to access funding for these tests. TAG's new factsheet gives advocates everything they need to make it happen.

These portable, battery-powered tests deliver results in under 30 minutes closer to where people first seek care.
The WHO recommended them in February 2026. The first available test costs $3.60 and works with a tongue swab, removing a major barrier for patients.

TB is still the world's leading infectious disease killer and in 2024, an estimated 2.7 million people who developed TB went undiagnosed. New near point-of-care (NPOC) tests could change that.
Check out our NPOC TB test factsheet and learn how to navigate Global Fund's Grant Cycle 8.

"It's so important to bring storytelling to the present," said Tamrin. Mike highlighted TB's prominence throughout Wuthering Heights, while Erin drew a line between TB stigma and the vampire myth in Sinners, noting how TB imagery of being "wasted away" shaped cultural folklore.
🧵(3/3)
Tamrin, TAG TB Project Co-Director Mike Frick, and Senior TB Project Associate Erin McConnell discussed how works like "Wuthering Heights", "Sinners", and "Moulin Rouge" reflect TB's present-day reality and why new narratives are needed to combat stigma.
🧵(2/3)
To mark #WorldTBDay, TAG joined "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" cast member Tamrin Goldberg for a panel on TB advocacy, exploring how pop culture storytelling shapes our understanding of tuberculosis today.

War is a public health crisis.
TAG condemns the U.S. war in Iran. Billions are spent daily on weapons while health programs are cut. We're calling on Congress to reject military spending and invest in health care instead.
We choose health. We choose research.

(2 of 2) It gets dismantled piece by piece. In this interview, Riko Boone explains how, as a result of HIV infrastructure being stripped away, communities will see rising rates of HIV diagnoses, decreased access to treatment and PrEP, and more preventable deaths.
