Maybe not so strange- when we consider what these demos did with some beloved games and game characters. Very poor decisions here from a tech company that is not exactly everyone’s favourite even beforehand.

The reaction here is so visceral.
Nerves are raw, people seem vulnerable, emotions are high. It’s hard to remember we are talking about a 3D graphical rendering technique. When has that ever been so controversial? Strange times.

Do you mean using resources just to "improve" the rendering in a game is the wrong thing? Compared to solving world hunger, or developing cancer cures - yes you are correct. But gaming was always a tech driven business, ever since we all cooed over textured polygons on PlayStation in the 90s.

I also appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks for the detailed information. As a developer it feels quite a familiar but very significant change in tools that we use. Game developers will adapt, and they will demand more control or they won't use it.

Nvidia have no obligation to consider this however, in the same way a camera manufacturer doesn’t get the blame for how any movie looks? The valid complaint here is Nvidia taking control away from the games creators. Ironically they normally do the opposite.

It is indeed averaged, and for example in environmental scenes of trees or landscapes we humans won’t be upset that some leaves look more/less green. In this case the EXACT hue of this character’s lips matters to us! So yes I agree with your points.

This is an excellent point 👌 about this exact moment in the game narrative- a narrative that the hundreds of article work to support, and my comparison was trying to show that only the saturation and lighting has changed BUT at this moment the effect is detrimental to the emotional narrative .

Apologies- emotions in this context are important and that is not intended as a criticism. Tech companies and CEOs tend to overlook the importance of emotions and it’s human to react or be invested emotionally in games. That is the point, as you also mention regarding emotional narrative.

True- I use Nokia HERE offline maps for data free navigation but assumed airplane mode might stop that working. Guess it won’t!
