The Washington Post Editorial Board was fine with Republicans gerrymandering in Texas.

But when Democrats responded in Virginia, it’s a “power grab” that “plunges America deeper into the gerrymandering abyss.”

Why it’s a pain being me: the multiple concert Ds in a row from 0:20-0:37 or so in the first movement are absolutely going to get Daedalus off my nice list

Ugh, Arcanto did the same between their 1st and 2nd violins, one of them sharp.

Volvo electric semi scores another real-world win with Coca-Cola Pepsi may grab headlines with their Tesla tie-in, but arch rival Coca-Cola is quietly building an electric semi truck fleet of its own.

"while the Tesla beats the Volvo VNR Electric [...] on paper [... there are] about 50 Semis in service at PepsiCo [...], while Volvo has put more than 5,000 all-electric semis into global service and logged well over 100 million zero-emission miles in that same amount of time."

Tom Cruise movies are so unrealistic. You never see him struggling to reach something on a high shelf.

Only playing while well rested and fully awake, and concentrating so that I don’t make big blunders pays off. Who knew

New ear cushions for my trusty APM1. There’s actually a perceptible difference in tone! The starkest examples, albeit still subtle, were in the timbre of the voices in Mahler 2 and what inner voices could be drawn from the overly thick texture in Tchaikovsky 6.

resetting my iPhone cured my Portrait Mode ailment

but now the EV6 won’t connect to it for CarPlay, persisting across multiple deletions, reconnections, and rebooting the car head unit twice

at least Bluetooth streaming still works, hmph

being an employee of a state institution makes for good benefits, at the least. (Open Enrollment season is upon us, because academic year and all.)

Bars in Washington, DC had been struggling since Covid. So why are the city’s Democrats so eager to get rid of Pete Hegseth, Kash Patel, and Jeanine Pirro?

Quatuor Ébène: good recording quality and stereo separation. They like to play consistently a few cents sharp, not tempering thirds and sixths to boot. I’m going to give them the boot after finishing their first movement.

Ok, Cavani is out. Intonation. Ugh. See 1:10-1:27 in second movement, first a minor cello gaffe then a huge first violin one. Not ok, peoples

Anyway, perhaps I’ll find one I like. (The first result Emerson 1986 recording is good but for a high noise floor on the old recording.)

Sine Nomine got knocked out from the first note: in a piece in F major, please don’t come in 15 cents sharp in that opening A… And the Julliard recording seems like it was done in a dry, anechoic chamber. Also boring.

Attacca has super annoying note shape. Cavani is getting a listen now but has quite a few intonation errors even in the opening minutes. Quartetto Italiano (both times they surface this first page) is boring.

Mini project of the evening: find a new preferred take on the lovely Ravel String Quartet in F. In the results are some recordings I don’t care for at all.

encountered a weird glitch in my instance of iOS such that ostensibly Portrait Mode photos wouldn’t have any post-capture aperture adjustments possible, and even preselecting the aperture during capture didn’t invoke the expected fake bokeh and all

(* re PDI: recall they had to bring the car back for its completion after delivery and still half assed it! I peeled yet more plastic from the back of the dash screen yesterday…)

Anyway, since I don’t care about clear coat health so much on a leased car I applied some elbow grease and a magic eraser + spray on wash and rid myself of them today. Said spray and a microfiber didn’t touch it, as it was fairly tenacious.

Two after shots.

In probably another instance related to Fowler Kia’s poor PDI* my white Kia had these linear, black deposits on its paint on all four wheel arches. I bet they were around the edges of some protective thing for shipping.

The Bike Lane Gender Gap: New Research Shows Women Ride More Where Protected Infrastructure Exists New research from New York City-based Transportation Alternatives highlights a persistent pattern in urban cycling.

NYC study shows men are 2.6x more likely than women to bike to work. When protected bike lane coverage is high, women’s cycling rates rise significantly faster than men’s.

When protected lanes are limited or fragmented, women’s participation drops sharply.

Good bike investments give women choices.
