I'm spending the weekend at @awesomecon.bsky.social wrangling 17 ASL interpreters, as usual - but representing @dublin2029.bsky.social while I do it!

Oh, and these are my new glasses - it was hard to switch styles, but I like them. 😊

ASL interpreters are unionizing—and they say they're getting fired for it Members of Congress have stepped in to back workers at the two firms that monopolize remote interpretation services for Deaf people.

ZVRS/Purple and Sorenson are unionbusting. I recently ported away from Sorenson myself - you can too.

It sounds a lot like criminalizing a mental health situation, is why I asked. Not necessarily always the case, but I'd be hoping for more sensitivity.

Just curious, why say "trespasser" instead of "person?"

Happy to give pointers! I'd personally just sign "long" and "COVID" as you suggested but it's entirely possible the STEM sign corpuses have something more conceptually accurate.

@mileswgriffis.bsky.social I would check in with the folks at @atomichands.bsky.social and @ntiddeafhub.bsky.social (US-based) and @signhealth.bsky.social (UK-based). Individuals who might be of help are @jahochcam.bsky.social, @fromthelabbench.bsky.social, and @tylergjamesphd.bsky.social.

It's time to move on, and I didn't die. The door clicked shut quickly when I left, so unfortunately I couldn't give anyone else a chance to try it. I'd absolutely use a Jabbrrbox for free again but I wouldn't pay 50 cents a minute.

For 50 cents a minute this should really be more comfortable. The seat is soft, but it's fixed to the floor and too far away from the desk for someone my size.

Well, I'm not allowed to adjust the lighting, apparently. I tried to turn it down and it keeps going back to bright. Which is fine, at least my phone is still charging.

Has anyone ever used a Jabbrrbox workspace at an airport or elsewhere? I found an unlocked one and I'm sitting inside it, but supposedly they have occupancy sensors and I'm wondering if the couch is going to start stabbing me, or the airflow will stop, or something...

How Brothel Workers in Nevada Just Made Labor History The courtesans at Sheri’s Ranch were staring down a horrifying new contract. So they did what workers everywhere do: They got organized.

When faced with a shockingly exploitative new employment contract that would’ve forced them to sign away their IP, their likeness rights, and their power of attorney, Jupiter Jetson and her coworkers at Sheri’s fought back—fast.

They organized a union in SIX DAYS. www.thenation.com/article/econ...

as a trans person living in a red state that i cannot realistically pack up & leave right now + i have community here i depend on: i ask of you to see the ways things can get better for the whole of us instead of abandoning a geographic area just bc of who is oppressing us in the seats of power

Meredith is drinking a Modelo Especial by Grupo Modelo When trapped in an airport... Good food though.

When trapped at O'Hare for four hours and no accessible lounges, definitely visit Tortas Frontera. The beer is meh but WOW the corn poblano soup is amazing.

A professor challenged the Smithsonian. Security shut the gallery. As President Donald Trump seeks to reshape museums and other cultural institutions, historian James Millward has been “guerrilla teaching” visitors about changes that have been made.

Hey DC, is there a large Francophone community in Dupont Circle? I spotted an ad for the local Alliance Française in the metro, and at the coffeeshop there's a pile of flyers in French for ESL classes. The back of the flyer has a little bit of Amharic but it's mostly French.

If my new glasses would get here ASAP, I'd appreciate it. The headaches are up to daily.

It's a video but perhaps he posted it elsewhere. @kradec.bsky.social ?

I'm not sure if you'll be able to see this from a private browsing window, but @kradec.bsky.social said it much better than I.

As for whether it's Trek - there's always been detractors. People said TNG wasn't Trek. Or Lower Decks. Or the movies. Somebody is always going to be a purist snob.

It can be a college show AND be Trek - "The First Duty" (TNG) showed us that. I'm excited for it and I'll be watching every Thursday!

It does have legacy characters - @robertpicardo.bsky.social and @tignotaro.bsky.social are both in it. It's especially fun to see the Doctor again, because he's been running for 900 years - he's not just another copy of the EMH Mark I, he's actually the Doctor from Voyager.

Wrapping up my 45th birthday with SFA. It's having the same uneven start as TNG, DS9, etc but clearly has potential. Grateful for a deaf actor in s1e2 (first since TNG) but less happy with magical lipreading and surprise speaking tropes. Still, I enjoyed it, and look forward to Thursday for more.

I got the e-book so I'm not sure that's possible with DRM - otherwise I would say yes!

Not bad, the American Alliance of Museums conf this year has 6 sessions/1 poster about accessibility. Definitely an increase from past! Of the 18 people involved, I can find that 2 are disabled - which is really quite good considering how many abled people I've seen present on disability at AAM.

a cat wearing glasses and a bow tie is using a laptop computer . Alt: A cat wearing glasses and a bow tie hisses angrily at a laptop computer. Text: "Are u kidding me?"

The British Museum's website mentions deaf-led BSL tours, relaxed mornings, etc with a link to view all upcoming accessible events.

There aren't any. No accessible events. There's upcoming yoga classes, a sleepover, tea ceremonies, and any number of topical tours.

But no accessible events.

Have finally started watching Heated Rivalry - I hope they paid the intimacy coach a very handsome fee for their excellent work.
