Oh interesting!

Some interesting pushback on the limits of this result here. Not a refutation, but arguing that there are some elementary mathematical functions that cannot be represented with just this functional form.

DDoSing Bluesky by positively mentioning AI in a joke with a typo in it.
This is the mathematical equivalent of “Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo”.

That’s reminded me I need to dig into the paper although a lot is over my head these days
A thread here if you didn’t catch it
Thanks! Yeah, I am not a natural mathematician but I get better at it whenever I spend time with it, which I should do more often. It’s fun just to wander around the foothills and see how far up the mountains you can get!
This is nuts. You can reduce all mathematical operations to compositions of a single functional form, in the same way you can reduce all logic gates to compositions of NAND. And this gives you searchable closed form solutions to numerical problems.

Thanks, this looks really interesting! Am going to need to find a moment to sit down and read the whole thing properly (along with the counterargument you posted).
It would also be opposed to oligarchy, protectionism and state interference in the private sector, for example.
That’s fair. And my point was mainly to observe just how much things have changed. But Thatcher did have a political philosophy that was shaped by people like Popper, Friedman and Hayek. There was an idea of individual freedom and an open society that I think goes beyond opposition to communism.
I think Thatcher would today regard a resurgent Russia as a threat to British sovereignty. And while Reagan is more complicated, it’s clear that Trump has a specific fascination with Putin that I do not think Reagan would have shared.
I was thinking this morning how both Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan would have been delighted to see a Westward-looking, centre-right party defeat a pro-Russian autocrat in a former Eastern Bloc country.
I’m testing a bot which summarises @fintwitter.bsky.social at regular intervals during its posting hours

What sort of interval would be useful? I’m thinking a couple of times an hour
Are there any other feeds or sources that may be interesting?
Perhaps now is a good time to share the @financialtimes.com investigative series on Viktor Orban. To start with here’s the one we sent a reporter up in a plane for … (300 free clicks)

New: US business adoption of Anthropic’s products is closing in on OpenAI even after the Pentagon branded it a supply chain risk in Feb, Ramp data shows
15 women were willing to come to testify in court on behalf of the FT.
That included 3 whose allegations had not previously been reported.
“This is a vindication for investigative journalism and for the victims whose stories of abuse we reported,” said the FT’s editor, Roula Khalaf. “The FT was always confident in its reporting. This is a case that should have never been brought.”
Wrote up some thoughts on Anthropic's Project Glassing, where their latest Opus-beating model is available to partnered security research organizations only. Given the recent alarm bells raised by credible security voices I think this is a justified decision.

Ever wondered what a network of twin cities around the world would look like? I grabbed some data from #Wikidata a while ago, and thought #Experimental day 5 of the #30DayChartChallenge was a good excuse to share this half-finished gizmo with the world. Enjoy! bothness.github.io/twin-cities/

Watch out for some exciting charts from the ONS #DataViz team this month as part of the #30DayChartChallenge. I'll try to add them all to this 🧵

Crazy crazy day. My first Cloudflare blog, and it's a big one.
We're rebuilding WordPress as if it were built today. It's end to end TypeScript, works as an Astro plugin, and has secure plugin execution in dynamic workers.
It's called EmDash, try it now ⤵️
