Sealion strip of the webcomic Wondermark by David Malki.

Sealion strip of the webcomic Wondermark by David Malki.

"Sealioning is a type of trolling or harassment that consists of pursuing people with relentless requests for evidence, often tangential or previously addressed, while maintaining a pretense of civility and sincerity ("I'm just trying to have a debate"), and feigning ignorance of the subject matter"

The native ground sample distance is actually 30 m, hopefully the later PR stuff includes the high-res details.

A small step for the mankind, a sizeable one for our team!

Tokyo image was taken at night and shows the land colder than the waterways (which threw me off for a minute).

Thermal imagery requires deeper understanding of the physics of the everyday life than good old visual band.

Satellite servicing companies face reality check Executives say the industry has to work harder at proving the commercial viability of in-orbit services

In-orbit servicing / deorbiting fails to gain traction.

People much late find out what the industry has long known: what is technologically impressive is not necessarily financially attractive (or even viable).

Donate to Fund Jonathan's Space Report Library Transition, organized by Jonathan McDowell For 35 years I've been sharing information about space exploration w… Jonathan McDowell needs your support for Fund Jonathan's Space Report Library Transition

Well, big news. I am planning to move the Space Library to a new home. And I need some help - in 35 years I've never asked for funding, donations or subscriptions for my Space Report, to keep it independent, but now I need to raise some additional funds.

Exclusive: Power failed at SpaceX mission control before September spacewalk by NASA nominee The spacewalk was carried out by private astronauts including Jared Isaacman, a fellow billionaire and longtime Musk partner who is now nominated by President-elect Trump to be administrator of NASA.

'Sh*it happens', but somewhat concerning it took 3 months and a Reuters investigation for the public to even hear about this incident...

Tevekkeli değil ecnebiler İngiliz olmadığımı anlıyor da, nereli olduğumu anlamıyor.

Amerikalılar beni İngiliz zannediyor, ama sanırım onlar herkesi İngiliz zannediyor. :)

Kapatmayın zaten, ki aizin adınıza başkası hesap açamasın. Üstüne sabah 7'de havlu atılmış şezlong gibi sonsuza dek dokunulmaz olsun (mekanın sahibi gelir havluyu kaldırır, eşini dostunu oturtursa bilemem).

There are specific class of satellites or missions who would benefit from even larger rockets with better "per kg" cost, but the proponents of this argument are usually dismissive of the huge diversity of needs and pain points in the satellite business.

Besides, launch cost is not the only parameter as you note and, paradoxically, if launch costs dwindle, the picture will be even more dominated by satellite building and operating costs, even for EO where all the user gets is data (not terminals).

Ah the good old "total launch cost / total launch capacity" argument, because this is so not what companies charge people for small satellites. Transporter price/kg for your 10 or 100 kg satellite is not exactly secret.

Citizens are a captive customer base, where the government is not obliged to provide a good service, as the income is not exactly tied to the customer satisfaction.

The UK equivalent would be a privatised rail firm, where there is no competition on most lines. Hence the poor service.

To make a meaningful impact, they have to attack the large spending streams, where resistance will be heavy. And to make funny headlines, they have to attack the puny but funny-sounding projects.

So far it has been more of the latter than former.

The question is, what sort of damage will they cause to the projects/departments that do not have powerful people or lobbies backing them up?
