Liberal Democrats get things done. We don’t do division. We do potholes and police officers, church roofs and clean rivers.
We focus on the local issues that matter to you.
Vote Liberal Democrat on 7th May.

A stylised graphic featuring three young people smiling and embracing each other, overlaid with the colours of the transgender pride flag (blue, pink and white). Text reads “Transgender Day of Visibility”
On #TransDayOfVisibility we celebrate trans people and stand with the trans community against hatred and discrimination.
To all our trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming members, supporters, friends and followers: We respect you, we value you - today and every day.
In #Newcastle ,we've been pushing on this issue with our own Stop Sewage Polluting the #Ouseburn campaign.
In 2025 alone, there were 87 sewage spills into the Ouseburn, adding up to over 279 hours of sewage dumping.

To paraphrase from The Importance of Being Earnest: To lose one candidate may be regarded as a misfortune, to lose five looks like carelessness… It’s no wonder it’s the Lib Dems who are most trusted to run local councils (YouGov, Sep 2025) www.scotsman.com/news/politic...
In the latest edition of the Local Government Association's first magazine Councillor Wendy Taylor talks about planning for healthy places and how councils can lead the next phase of prevention.

Sign our petition to Stop the Burn and get Newcastle recycling again - because Newcastle deserves better.

When the Liberal Democrats ran the council, we were twice awarded most Sustainable (greenest) City in the UK. Now Labour has let down the city and with their backing of the incinerator project on Teesside, our recycling rates will continue to decline.
It's official: recycling rates have fallen across councils in the North East. Newcastle's recycling proportion fell by 15% between 2013-13 and 2023-24 - the third biggest drop in the country. (Source: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...)
Lib Dems winning in the North East against both Labour and Reform!
Help make the change in #Newcastle as well in May by voting for more Liberal Democrat councillors.
Because Newcastle deserves better.
National issues can affect all of us at local level too and it's the theme of this week's 60 second survey of the week. What's important to you? Cost of living? Jobs and the economy? Climate change and the environment? Let us know in the survey!

Back our campaign to end the A&E crisis!
If you've had an injury, you shouldn't have to wait hours to be seen by a doctor. Yet for too many people in Newcastle, that is now a sad reality.
We're calling for a new law to outlaw waits of 12 hours or more. Add your name: www.libdems.org.uk/12hours
Today is the first day of LGBT History Month
LGBT+ people have always been part of our societies, but often their stories are hidden and go untold.
This month is an opportunity to celebrate those stories and continue to campaign for progress.
#Newcastle deserves better than a failing Labour administration, but wherever Reform run councils, they bring chaos, division, broken promises, and reward themselves above serving residents.
Newcastle deserves real change but only the Lib Dems can deliver that.

In the week that the Labour administration announced the closure of the cafés at Paddy Freeman’s and Exhibition Park, our 60 second survey of the week is all about our local environment.
Let us know what's most important to you: www.newcastle-libdems.org.uk/60-second-su...
• We need investment everywhere. We are campaigning for proper facilities, toilets, and play areas in all areas of the city, not just select spots.
#Newcastle #NewcastleDeservesBetter #LibDems
• We need a Fair Deal for our parks. Returning management to the Council was supposed to improve standards, not cut facilities.
• Commercial mismanagement is costing taxpayers. Losing £200k a year on what should be thriving businesses is unacceptable.
Anyone who uses our parks knows these are clearly popular spots. If the Council cannot make a café viable in one of the busiest parks in the city, it isn't a failure of demand—it is a failure of management.
The Lib Dem view is clear:
It is frankly a scandal that the Labour administration has announced the closure of the cafés at Paddy Freeman’s and Exhibition Park.
In their announcement today, the Council claims these venues are suffering from "falling demand." We don’t buy it, and we doubt you do either.
Only the Liberal Democrats can defeat Reform and the rise of dangerous, populist politics.
It's time for another 60 second survey of the week! Community safety is the theme - let us know what is important to you: speeding traffic and road safety, street lighting, anti-social behaviour etc....

Take our 60 second survey of the week!
Potholes have been in the news this week but why not let us know about the local services that are important to you in this survey:

Ed Davey quote which reads: Right now, in the corridors of A&E departments across our country, there are thousands of people – sick or injured – lying on trolleys or waiting on plastic chairs. No privacy. No dignity.
People were rightly furious with the Conservative Party for plunging the NHS into this crisis. Now they are fed up with Labour for letting things get worse on their watch.
We must tackle the crisis in A&E.
Two sides of the same coin.
Don't let Trump's America become Farage's Britain.
Our condolences go to his wife Lucy, also a former Jesmond councillor, and his wider family and friends.
He represented Blakelaw ward on Newcastle Council for 26 years, before becoming a councillor for North Jesmond in 2014. He stepped down in July 2024 due to ill health. Gerry was a hard-working and much-admired local representative who built strong relationships with many local residents and groups.
Profile picture of Gerry Keating
Newcastle Liberal Democrats are very sorry to pass on the news that former long-serving Blakelaw and Jesmond councillor Gerry Keating has passed away. Gerry was first elected as a Tyne & Wear County Councillor in 1981.
Newcastle's Labour administration had to admit to running up nearly £10m of extra costs above budget this year, the largest deficit in at least the last ten years.
Lib Dems would deliver credible plans for transformation of services facing cost pressures - we've done it before and can do it again.
