The FBI guy is on a paranoid bender and won’t leave his room.

The War guy quotes bible passages from Pulp Fiction.

The Health guy collects raccoon dicks.

It’s an Idiocracy on steroids.

We're waiting for an administration that cares about competence and professionalism over loyalty and obeisance.

Jim Jordan is commenting on Eric Swalwell's sexual misconduct allegations. Jordan was assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State while team doctor Richard Strauss sexually abused at least 177 athletes. Multiple wrestlers testified under oath they told Jordan. He did nothing. He was never charged.

AI bs. Blocked!

Maine has yet to have rolling blackouts. But yes we are part of the New England power grid (ISO New England).

Go be polemical and condescending elsewhere. You are adding nothing to the discussion at this point.

Good point.

I think there are some people commenting that don't understand the economic hurdles that some people face.

Maine has some of the oldest housing stock in the country. And many people are low income. There are state and local programs to weatherize homes, but not enough.
Proper insulation should be a first step for anyone. But sadly it does have to be paid for and not everyone has the money even for that

6 days ago 1 0 1 0

Yes, I see that as a big HP benefit for Mainers. A lot of people here don't have whole house AC, and either suffer through the hot weather or have small inefficient electric units.

6 days ago 1 0 1 0

All I'm saying is you have to do research for your specific climatic and financial situation. HPs are a good option for many situations, but not a panacea.

6 days ago 0 0 1 0

What are you on about? Who says I'm listening to morons? I have looked into the State program for HP subsidies, talked w/people who use various types of heating sources, spoken with installers; and have lived in Maine for over 30 yrs.
Why would I talk to a MAGA about this?

Northern Maine goes dark...

6 days ago 0 0 1 0

Well we had all too many nights at -27 to -28C this past winter. So here, especially for people with houses that aren't well insulated, a back up is necessary.
There are benefits to HPs. But our electricity costs are increasing rapidly, and Maine has some of the highest electricity costs in the US.

6 days ago 0 0 1 0

Good to hear. I expect that over the last 8 years or so (that Maine's been encouraging HPs) that the tech has improved. Also, having a well insulated house makes a big difference for any heating type.

6 days ago 1 0 0 0

I can't say. But I would be surprised if the State of Maine's subsidy program wouldn't account for that. At least one of my neighbors used that funding.
Also, Maine has some of the oldest housing stock in the US, and an incredible number of those are under insulated.

Good. Any felons or adjudicated rapists ready to do the same?

6 days ago 1 0 0 0

But how would you know if you don't look it up?
It's pretty arrogant to think that someone who lives in a state where this is an issue wouldn't have looked into switching heat sources to save money and out of concern for the environment. Believe it or not, I have. 🙄

6 days ago 1 0 1 0

Anyone say that it was? The discussion is that heat pumps alone can't sufficiently heat many houses in Maine in the winter. Solar is a good back up, but expensive to install (especially if you are also installing HPs), many people heat with wood, so keeping it as a back up is fiscally reasonable

6 days ago 3 0 2 0

Lots of wood heat here in Maine too. Over $400/cord for oak, cut, split and delivered right now.
But wood would be a good back up heat to augment heat pumps.

6 days ago 0 0 0 0

Yes, but the issue is quite common, and with the state encouraging and subsidizing installations, one would think they have taken that into account (I don't know what the state requirements are).
