Changing that core idea into a new name adds confusion for people looking up the game name now, and the reasoning of 'being worried people might expect a Shadow over Innsmouth story' makes no sense because of course the players will know the devs have put their own spin on Lovecraftian elements.

The name change is baffling to me. I've finished the game before and the name 'Mark of the Mermaid' absolutely ties into the core backbone of the entire story, which is on the back of the box itself. "will you save or kill your lover who has transformed into a hideous creature" as it says.
