One thing I don’t look forward to is the tendency to stop listening to new music with passing years. This week I got into the wonderful Hanabie., a young Japanese metal band, and Mexican electro-art rockers Descartes a Kant. There’s so much exciting music out there… I can’t yet live in the past.

We were discussing magical realism in literature versus film, and I can only think of one film that really got it right. My 20th Century, by Ildiko Enyedi. Can you think of others?

Guitarists. Do you have an irrational aversion to some guitars because of stereotypes? Like Jazzmasters are for intense nerds into fuzz pedals and PRS are for lawyers and nü metalheads?
