The desperate campaign to push AI down our throats is just what Nestlé did with baby formula, or Monsanto with patended seeds.
Manufactured Intermediation—inserting a corporate tollbooth into a process that used to be self-sustaining, using a low initial barrier to entry to destroy the alternative.
Canada is a climate pariah. We're failing to meet our international obligations and while most of the country has done a good job of reducing emissions, all that good work is undone by 2 provinces jacking up theirs.
Thank you Smith, Moe & now Carney for making it worse.

Sanofi will be making Novavax available in Canada this fall — but it’s up to the provinces or territories to order this vaccine. Send an email to your health minister and your local representative to tell them why Novavax access is essential for many people: covidsociety.ca/news/nuvaxov...
It took 10 months and 5 inquiries, but ... newly released open-answer responses to the province's Alberta Next survey show widespread frustration with the process, with many calling it biased, one-sided, and lacking options to say “no”

You absolutely SHOULD NOT go around telling people that data centers are full of gold, silver, palladium, copper, and that the data centers are almost entirely unstaffed.
The government's case for lawful access just got more alarming: it now admits Bill C-22 is a first step and it is open to going further. Metadata retention and embedded intercept infrastructure aren't the ceiling. They're the surveillance starting point.
BLUESKY IS A WEBSITE THAT TURNS (post by jay.bsky.team claiming that bluesky is made with AI) INTO (picture of bluesky not working)
We should have been out marching and shutting things down over teachers and trans rights. Now we can’t let the gerrymandering thing pass. The integrity of elections is at stake. We must stop this, in the streets if necessary.
This is a major line being crossed by Alberta's UCP government. Throwing out the work of an independent boundaries committee is authoritarian and extremely anti-democratic.
the fact that legislators are trying to say that computers are devices that require id verification and tracking to use should put fear into EVERYONE. FIGHT AGAINST THIS.
with your help, we can once again remind fascists why their natural environment is "in hiding" and not "in public"
My physiotherapist gave me inter-oral release because I’m having a jaw issue and let me just say it was less enjoyable than it sounds.
For someone who supposedly got climate change, you and your government been a massive disappointment.
I voted Liberal to avoid mindless right-wing cuts to heritage, research, the National Archive. I got mindless cuts.
I voted Liberal to avoid stupid populism. I got stupid populism.
So far this government has:
- removed EV mandates (and moreover paused rebates to stall the market)
- removed carbon tax
- removed low carbon electricity policy
- removed gasoline tax
- removed oil and gas cap
when does the Canadian Federal government do climate policy?
“In my view this stuff isn’t complicated. You say, ‘don’t set the cookie.’ They set the cookie. The regulators see a fox going into the henhouse and the fox says, ‘I’m just here to count the eggs, not to eat any chickens.’ And they take them at their word."

Or… we could let the oil situation accelerate electrification and use the $billions saved by not cutting gas taxes to support families hurt by fuel inflation thru a boost in the CCB and GST credits.
Every time we cut a tax in response to price pressure I think we reinforce the argument that taxes are the reason things are expensive.
long before the same dissatisfaction pops up because Carney's agenda of service cuts, military spending and resource extraction and clamping down on privacy won't solve issues like affordability, housing or health care.
Based on what the first year of Carney has looked like, I'm really gonna hate the next few. And I'm not convinced Canadians are going to like it all that much either. No brand of business-friendly centrism can fix our fundamental issues of capitalism, climate and settler colonialism. It won't be...
Canada should listen to the UN Climate Change Executive Secretary
"Incredibly some argue that the correct response to the current crisis is to double-down on the cause of the turmoil – fossil fuels. This defies economic logic and basic common sense."

Eliminating libraries in prisons is a disaster, completely shortsighted. Libraries are a lifeline for incarcerated people who want to learn and grow, and have few other options.

People & orgs across Canada are calling for expanded vaccine access & choice, as seen in this open letter from the Canadian Immunocompromised Advocacy Network: immunocompromised.ca/accelerated-... In 2024 when BCians lost Novavax access, they sent over 26,000 letters calling for #NovavaxNow.
One last point: When governments talk about "age verification," they also mean "identity verification"
So even if you're 55 years old, you will be virtually carded and all your social media activity will be linked to your identity. That means no online anonymity and raises privacy issues for adults
If the Liberals passed this into law in 2018, Ontario students would’ve been unable to organize protests against Doug Ford’s sex-ed curriculum change
15 yr old Greta Thunberg would have been banned from posting about climate change
Teenagers actually participate in our democracy, believe it or not

Meanwhile, Carney is cutting Canadian Space Agency funding by 33%.
