What do chefs and Nix engineers have in common?
We obsess over a clean kitchen.
20 years of reproducible builds and it turns out I was accidentally building the best AI strategy the whole time. You can't make AI deterministic, but you can make everything around it predictable.

People saying extend Claude Code through CLI, not MCP. Agree. We see Claude Code looping through commands every day trying to figure out the output, the flags.
One surprise: output markdown, not JSON. LLMs read text, and they're way better at markdown. Didn't see that coming.
PlanetNix 2026 done. Almost 2x last year. Still recovering.
Even the most hardcore Nix people said we can't expect _everyone_ to learn Nix. Did not see that coming.
Nix + Kubernetes was the hot topic. Anthropic, Nvidia, Spotify all running Nix in prod.
Videos coming soon. planetnix.com
You’ve learned Nix and you see the power 👉 Deterministic builds, reproducibility, no more “works on my machine.”
@rok-garbas.bsky.social will show you how to bring Nix into your team’s workflow without asking anyone to learn Nix.

You know Nix. Your team doesn't. You've tried the pitch. They went back to Docker.
Giving a workshop at PlanetNix: Give your team Flox. They get reproducible envs. You keep your flakes. Everyone wins.
Some will learn Nix eventually. Some won't. Both fine.

Wispr Flow just showed me what I said most in 2025.
Go-to phrase: "Let's commit the changes"
In Ghostty: "Please review and commit"
I was hoping it would say "talking to my wife."
Nope. Just git.
~12 hours for PlanetNix CFP.
If you use Nix you probably hate talking about it. Never bring it up at work. Definitely don't submit a talk.
Unless...?
March 5-6 in Pasadena, co-located with SCaLE. Good conversations, great burritos (it's LA).

Michael Stahnke is the VP of Engineering at @flox.dev. He joins @kball.llc to talk about Flox, building on top of Nix, software security, and much more.

Internet, please be kind, this is the first time for me 😊
... and yes, let's learn hashtag#Flox and hashtag#Nix together
I had to skip last year's NixCon last moment, but not skipping it this year :)
We recently launched something big at Flox: Build & Publish 🎉

What makes Nix stick?
Ron Efroni shares how the Nix community became one of the most helpful and passionate in open source.
We go deeper in Nix in the Wild, where devs share how they’re using Nix in real-world projects.

Sometimes writing code isn’t the hardest part.
It’s dealing with everything *around* it.
❌ Different Node/Python versions.
❌ Piles of dependencies.
❌ READMEs that *almost* work (but don’t).
With Flox, you can set up environments in seconds.

It is not "or" its "and/or" 😆

The project is coming along quite nicely.
In the real world, Flox and #containers neatly 🧩 complement one another.
The real magic ✨ lies in using Flox inside containers to fetch & manage runtime dependencies dynamically.
This keeps images minimal 📦 + guarantees reproducibility 🔁. Learn more:

Homebrew migration guide Flox is an environment and package manager all in one. Using Flox, you can create discrete environments containing packages from the Flox Catalog. Flox can replace Homebrew entirely, or they can be used together. This guide explains how to introduce Flox into environments where Homebrew is currently being used, either as a replacement or an addition. It introduces new concepts and proposes a basic procedure for mapping packages.
Remember that experiment of using @flox.dev to replace Homebrew? Now it's official. flox.dev/docs/tutoria...
