this is true beyond journalism. the federalist society is exceptionally well-funded while the closest thing to a liberal counterpart has to engage in endless penny pinching

I've warned for years that Republicans planned to reroute federal family planning dollars to crisis pregnancy centers—groups that won't even talk about birth control.

I re-upped that prediction just last week. A day later, this Politico piece dropped.

Armageddon is terrible, but our only other option was diversity trainings at work.

The problem isn’t that two aircraft were shot down. The problem is that we aren’t psychologically or politically prepared to suffer any losses, because this entire war has been sold as a video game set on “easy” and not as a cause worth sacrifice.

I do think that those lawyers and law professors who tried to fabricate a historical or legal case against birthright citizenship should be socially and professionally ostracized for their shocking cynicism and intellectual dishonesty as well as for their bald hostility to pluralist American values.

But then how will I wake to the chorus of two-stroke motors on a Saturday morning, the sickly fumes of exhaust dancing around my coffee (how did it get all the way to my porch)?

really striking how race science freaks seem to spend their every moment crowing about how superior they are versus actually doing anything socially useful that would demonstrate it.

i think this is exactly right and it is part of what i was trying to get at last week when i wrote about the narcissism of the president and his allies. they fundamentally do not believe other people are real, and do not understand the decisions they make.

What a weird hill for this dude to die on—but entirely predictable. Imagine one's sense of self being on such shaky ground that a nutrient-rich bean brings them to their philosophical knees. Yikes indeed (and I agree: soy is a fantastic food).

National Review accuses me of lying about the rise in maternal mortality since the end of Roe: "It turns out that maternal mortality rates declined in 2024 according to the CDC."

You absolute fucking tools, that's *national data*—take a look at what's happening in states where abortion is banned

interesting how a baby in a dark suit and dark shoes looks mature. but a man wearing a dark suit with tan dress sneakers and "fun socks" looks like a child. something to think about

I say this as someone who is not excited about ActivityPub very much, but I see how and why its designers made the decisions they did. I don’t agree with some of them, but implementation decisions are sometimes like belly buttons.

I’m confident that if ActivityPub had venture capital to burn we would have a different UX. But there’s a world where we improve DX first, then the natural improvements to UX with alternative clients are possible.

ALSO, instead of consulting Adrian Vermeule and Montesquieu to understand the right way to think about a constitutional membership rule in a republic formed on the ashes of slavery, we should consult Frederick Douglass, who fought for that rule. FFS. teachingamericanhistory.org/document/our...

I can’t believe how well my needs to play music and write code gel together by writing VSTs in Rust. A growing ecosystem—that I can contribute to immediately? Check! Hard problems that clever people have toiled over for years? Check! Joyful self-expression through code and sound? Check check check!

When I work with movement leaders I always say - you are not the acceptable sacrifice for the good of the movement. If the movement depends on sacrificing you - it is being built off the same social norms the country was built on when it sacrifices a whole race of people to start its economic engine

Really does feel like one of the ever widening fault lines in society is recognizing an absolutely terrible, regressive feature and deciding either “that’s bad we should not do that” or “that’s bad how can I personally benefit from it”

Amazing how the entire concept of philosophical revolution during the Enlightenment is dismissed without cause simply because of its *checks notes* recency?

For someone all about efficiency, you'd think he would condense his brainvomit to "I don't think about how my actions affect other people".
