Past Peak Bloom at the Tidal Basin
Tuesday, March 31st, 2026 @ Washington, DC, USA
We visited Washington, DC in the morning today to see the cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin. It was, unfortunately, well past peak bloom.

After breakfast at the Crowne Plaza Geneva, we checked out and took the hotel's shuttle to Geneva Airport. After spending some time at two airport lounges, we flew on United Airlines back to Dulles.

After our final morning at the InterContinental Lyon, we checked out and revisited the Roman theatres, which were closed for wind when we visited earlier on this trip. After, we had lunch at Bouchon Tupin before catching a train to Geneva, checked into the Crowne Plaza, and had dinner in the city.

After breakfast at the InterContinental Lyon, we headed down to Vienne by train. Once there, we visited the Cathedral, Musée Gallo-Romain, and various ruins of the Roman Empire, including the city's Ancient Theatre. We ended the day back in Lyon with dinner at Le Bouchon des Cordeliers.

Unfortunately, the museum of the Château des Ducs de Savoie is closed on Mondays so we could not visit.
After breakfast at the InterContinental Lyon, we headed over to Chambery, a former capital of Savoy, for the day. The weather wasn't great. We ended up visiting the Cathédrale Saint-François-de-Sales and Musée Savoisien with lunch in between at a Savoyard restaurant.

We came upon a marching band and the 165th Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction! We enjoyed some music and food, saw some historic buildings and a bit of the auction, and visited the Fallot mustard factory.
After breakfast at the InterContinental Lyon Hotel-Dieu, we decided to head up to Beaune as the weather forecast was the most favorable there.

We woke up to a rainy day at the InterContinental Lyon Hotel-Dieu. After getting a late start, we spent most of the afternoon at the Museum of Fine Arts. We then had an early dinner at a bouchon in Old Lyon before an early end to the day.

A beautiful afternoon for an early arrival on United at Washington Dulles International Airport! But it's a little chilly out there 😅 #UnitedAirlines #IAD #winter #snow
After returning to the #gondola, visibility was limited both at our elevation and below. We weren't able to see #Chur until descending to the aerial tram's upper station at #Känzeli.
While watching some Coal Tits, similar in appearance to the Carolina Chickadees back home, at a feeder, it started to snow.
We ascended to #Brambrüesch on the south side of #Chur, the oldest town in #Switzerland, via aerial tram & gondola. We passed through a light layer of clouds on the way up with still more clouds above us after arriving. Visibility was pretty good at our elevation though. #ChurBergbahnen #Grisons
We went to the top of Uetliberg, a small mountain on the west side of Zurich, via train and then ascended a 70 meter tower for a fantastic 360° view of the area. Luckily, there were stairs so no free climbing or any sort of climbing was required! #SZU #UtoKulm #Uetliberg #Zurich #Switzerland
The view from all directions from the top of Bourscheid Castle's tower. Although most of the castle is in a ruined state, it is still an interesting place to visit. The view is pretty good too, we even got a little bit of blue sky! #BourscheidCastle #Bourscheid #Luxembourg
It was another dreary day as we visited Vianden Castle, perched atop a hill above the town below. The castle itself contains various elements from the 12th century until modern times as it was in a ruined state until it was reconstructed. #ViandenCastle #Vianden #Luxembourg
Still, we enjoyed visiting various viewpoints throughout the city and the remnants of its fortifications.
It was quite wet and foggy in the morning in Luxembourg today. It did improve a bit in the afternoon but overall the weather wasn't particularly pleasant. #GrandDuchessCharlotteBridge #LuxembourgFortress #VilleHaute #Grund
In more recent times, Trier was the birthplace of Karl Marx, perhaps the city's most famous, or maybe infamous, native born resident.
