women next to me at the cafe discussing a European couple they know who moved to London and hired a schools consultant (?) who advised them on what neighbourhood to buy a house in so their kids could get into the best state school, so I reckon that we actually could tax high earners a bit more tbh

Although Starmer insists that he would have withdrawn Mandelson’s appointment had he known about the vetting problem, the evidence presented by Robbins casts serious doubt on that. Most likely, Starmer would have brushed it aside and installed Mandelson anyway, such was his determination. 4/
Looks like I got this right (apart from the misspelling). The problem arose because of a procedural mismatch: a political appointment was treated as a departmental appointment for the purposes of vetting with no reference back to the person (Starmer) making the appointment when an issue arose. 1/
The idea that being *a member of the House of Lords* in any way means you can be trusted with Top Secret/STRAP material without proper vetting is so beyond absurd that this must surely be a joke?
Are there, perhaps, any recent examples of dubious characters with obvious security risks being appointed to the House of Lords?
Great thread here. Does a good job of pointing out the flaws in the actions of both no 10 and Robbins in the process as talked about so far. Personally I think it should be a resigning matter for Starmer. I have low tolerance for people who perform high risk gambling and don’t accept their losses.
I have always considered myself a libertine. I had no problem with gambling. But the expansion of gambling into EVERY CONCEIVABLE CORNER of society is horrific. This is why I don't read ads for sports betting anymore.
people can't leave well enough alone. and this isn't just a gambling thing.
The Infowars news is funny, yes. But more importantly, it is an outright rebuke of Alex Jones' evil.
It's testament to the strength and resilience of the Sandy Hook families who survived this bullshit for more than a decade as well as the Onion, which didn't give up on this for the last 18 months.
With the help of the Sandy Hook families, The Onion has reached a long-awaited deal to take over InfoWars.
We've enlisted the help of @timheidecker.bsky.social, who will be InfoWars' Creative Director.
Please stand by for more.
It’s especially insane when there’s an example given when it was done before. So appointing without vetting was going against then current best practice.
There's a lot of people who have photos with Rob and know him (or did business with him on shoots) but there's also a lot of people who he paid for photos like any other fan and they genuinely don't have our memory of him. This is funny because it's Nick but good to keep in mind.
Making regular weekly flights from the same airports for a year meant I could optimise my arrival time. I very quickly learned that you do not need to arrive two hours before most flights, especially if the security was good.
I’ve just noticed there’s a dog in the chamber of the House of Commons
And if titles could change hands on dqs and countouts, it gives heels extra tactics to use when trying to win titles, and can create extra drama when the face champ beats the ten count.
He’s not eligible, he’s already had kids
Yeah, it definitely comes from wrestlers trying to protect themselves by only agreeing to finishes where they aren’t pinned, so the audience cottoned on that they didn’t really count. They’re still seen as legit finishes in a lot of Japanese promotions though.
I love this, because the American approach (particularly since the WWF expansion) always insists that referees be small and practically invisible, to make the wrestlers look bigger and more important. But there's just as valid a psychology in "the ref needs to be able to physically handle himself".
at risk of spending all day sharing and agreeing - wrestling largely only has itself to blame, but I hate that count-outs, DQs, and time limit draws are considered "non-finishes". They are a booked finish as much as any other, and treating them as *inherently* bad cuts off an avenue of storytelling.
Starmer said months ago that Mandelson repeatedly lied throughout the appointment process, but there seems to be an implication that he only recently learned about Mandelson failing his security vetting. Something doesn’t add up here.

Well the gods certainly answered his prayers, didn’t they?
Jay Joshua lying on a barrier at RevPro Epic Encounter while a little further away the next segment of the barrier has lifted up and crashed down onto the audience members in the front row
stole this photo from @kennyevil.bsky.social but FUCKING HELL LOOK THERE ARE PEOPLE UNDER THAT
Ummmmmmmmmmmm
Even under the best case scenario, Starmer appointed people who thought it was best for him not to be informed about important information. That’s terrible leadership and a reason to resign.
No10’s account is incredible.
I held Developed Vetting for nearly ten years and spent three years at the heart of the Cabinet Office. I have never heard of a Developed Vetting denial being overruled. Here’s why…🧵

I’m sure it’s a coincidence that a property developer made the complaint about a potentially lucrative central London venue.
