Ruby 3.2 just reached end-of-life. Ruby 3.3 moved to security-only maintenance. I've written about how this process works from a maintainer's perspective — something I've long discussed in Japanese and am now bringing to English readers: dev.to/hsbt/is-your...

Are English/ #literature teachers able to tell when their younger students started listening to Pink Floyd based on when the word "derision" showed up in their writing? I'm sure mine would have been able to.

I want to set up a VM and boot this up now... I have the CDs still...
The wait begins!
At a substantially higher cost than we paid in 2020 for the current one, a #Lenovo #Thinkpad has been ordered, and will make its way to me over the next 2-3 weeks.
It'll be #Windows11 & I'm excited about the new changes expected in W11 through this year!
You're inconsolableそう 。元気だして!
Why did no-one tell me that Windows-Shift-T works on #Windows10 to extract text from a picture!? I thought it was a Windows 11 thing, added with the new snipping tool replacement.

Hi @jenmsft.bsky.social - there's this continuous debate on the Start Menu, Taskbar, etc. in Windows and its changes. I wrote up a post on why the new changes disrupt my flow and I wish my flow continues being supported:

Happy to discuss.
NYT editorial board issues a full-throated endorsement of congestion pricing:
"Over its first 14 months, the [NYC] congestion pricing system has exceeded even the high hopes of many supporters. It has reduced traffic, improved the quality of life and even provided a boost for businesses."
Tangentially related: this is also the problem with rapid releases of software. I learn new things that, say, Teams does... and then there are 30 new releases in the next year, and I have no idea that one of my annoyances has been addressed and the workaround is no longer needed 😔
For the smallest of seconds, I thought that post was about the PM of the UK.
🎨 We rolled out a new section on our landing page this week! We hope it will help you explore the DuckDB ecosystem at a glance.

I strongly believe that 0 passenger rides is a real side-effect of shifting to AVs for personal use.
SQLite + Spatialite can really go the distance for a lot of things. I'm also excited about how DuckDB fits into the geospatial picture.
A bit bummed that @duckdb.org / @hannes.muehleisen.org & co. won't make it to #Singapore in May 2026 for DuckCon #7. I was looking forward to it (even submitted a basic bumpable talk) but the decision is completely understandable, given the situations.
Until it eventually happens, cheers!
Thanks, that scratches the itch!
How have we not run out of 3-letter IATA codes for airports? If it's 26 letters, there'd be only 17,576 codes. Are there really that few airports in the world?

All I'm saying is the fact that WIN + SHIFT + T can extract text from screenshots is a lifesaver in a role where a bunch of people send me screenshots of text
Accompanying batch files are available now on GitHub for people using a portable #PostgreSQL installation on #Windows: github.com/mohits/pg-po...

The "mess" that eventually led to the Office ribbon - which I really like. It irked many (incl. me) when it launched because it needed you to trust the "new model" but I am one of the converts and think it's genuinely much better.
Updated gem versions based on Dependabot security issues. I also ran Rideshare with Postgres 18 and app tests passed, looking good.
Originally Rideshare used Postgres 16. I'd planned to keep it updated for at least several years along with the book (published in 2024). github.com/andyatkinson...
Needing to work with #PostgreSQL for a few days continuous, and it's better to have it set up as a #Windows Service rather than just a portable installation.
Here's how: notepad.onghu.com/2026/portabl...
(Also, it covers how to send logs to file)

Are you saying we have enshittified the usage of the word?
I didn't know the etymology but I think I mostly use it for "things that have been made progressively worse"
