I saw that in our news as well. Interesting that you can wear Swastikas but can't mow your lawn on Sunday. Switzerland has no backbone.

Big news mountain people!
There is a new FATMAP. Meet OUTMAP.
You'll be back to loving maps, hi-res imagery, 3D terrain, and loads of layers for the backcountry ski crowd.

My closest friend and partner in all this mountain stuff, Kim Strom, tells an emotional tale about a very unexpected turn life took a few years back.

Good news fellow mountain athletes! I do believe the new FATMAP has landed - meet OUTMAP. It's brand new and very, very promising. I recommend the free trial to play with the 3D imagery and terrain layers - it's solid.

I've been in a similar situation and was attacked by someone who saw ambiguity in something I wrote about an alpine achievement. Life's grey areas don't always translate well to those who want black & white.
Krakauer was spot on when he said that the amount of time to refute bullshit is disproportionate to the time it takes to spew bullshit. This situation can happen to any of us in the media at anytime if someone with a ton of time to waste is motivated.
Our best trail running find in 2024 was a variation of the Tour des Combins. If you're looking for a four day run in the Alps that goes through Italy & Switzerland, stays high in huts, climbs an alpine peak, and has almost 100km of perfect singletrack, visit

Why go on a trail running trip to the Himalaya?
The obvious answer is probably different from the reality.
Once you go, you know.
We explain why we go. And, why we keep going back.

New Run on alpsinsight.com : Becca de Sery - This one loops a small peak on the north side of the Grand Combin and gets you in tight with a big glacier landscape.
New Run: Alphubel - One of the Alps easier 4000 meter peaks makes for a great mountain run. It’s also the perfect training peak for glacier travel.

Thanks for sharing that, Ed. It did help.
Please read.
I did and was reminded of something that is so easily forgotten.
Never have I been happier to not live there. But, here we go again, the daily shit show is coming for all of us no matter where we live.
The cat did recently escape and I gave chase in ski boots. Hopefully that never happens again.
In case anyone is interested, this was my day.
Why do most trail runners obsess over races?
What if you got creative and combined your fitness with objectives of your own design? Mountains, for example.
Think of the places you’ll get to go.
It’s all up to you.

You can still feel appropriately tiny deep in the Alps
The Greek Islands probably didn't come to mind when you saw this, but Greece it is.
We were lucky enough to spend three days traversing the island of Crete, high on a ridge line, with the sea on each side.
I saw that when you got back, I was there at the same time living in my van in Bishop trying to climb. Back in Switzerland now watching it be very very grey.
Good to see you here, always enjoy seeing what you get up to.
Bluesky doesn't seem to have many mountain athletes yet - am I wrong? Climbers? Trail runners?
No amount of unsubscribing / report spam does anything in defense of them.
Which of the Alps’ Grand Ski Tours is for you? We take a fun look at the real classics: Haute Route, Berner, Ortler, and so on.

Just running along on my forest trails when suddenly, this.
After three months on the go, I'm back home in Switzerland playing peak-a-boo with the Alps.
As the trail running guidebook creator to the Alps, I cringe when I see Strava's suggestions - all UGC trash versions and very much out of season. But, how long until AI discovers what is best and in season? Do you use this stuff? Or do you seek human curated trail running routes when you travel?
