[pupil become master voice] ah but professor, I actually have TWO safe spaces

Waking up at 4:45am instead of 4am
(IMO the only acceptable (planned) excuse, other than like a transportation strike—and these were the reasons for the two flights I’ve missed, out of maybe 70+ lifetime so far)
Back when I was in community college I took a philosophy class and did an essay assignment by writing Plato’s cave from the perspective of some dudes who got high. One went outside, but forgot what he saw
Prof, grading, underlined a lot of it (randomly?) and gave it 100 (was he high?)

Plz turn off the horns and sirens, they are waking my baby (and also they are stupid)

I think this sort of thing is cool
pretty but if they were near where I'm trying to sleep I would get a flamethrower and do a big meal prep
give the pope a nucelar weapon (before trump offs him)

And in case this isn't clear, I say this as someone who voted for him (and Harris, Biden, etc) because Republicans are far more harmful. I just can't do the thing where I pretend the lesser evil isn't evil at all
high bar or low bar, sumo or conventional
--that was especially unpopular in key swing states--right before the election that put donald trump in power, not decriminalizing marijuana, and generally doing nothing to stop the accumulation of wealth and power among the fascist freaks he's silently watching rule us now
investigating journalists, keeping Guantanamo Bay open, doing regime change in Libya (same incentive for nuclear proliferation as trump in Iran), militarizing police and letting them violently crush the Occupy protests and BLM protests and Standing Rock protests, pushing an unpopular trade deal ...
Obama had such an aura of decency… it really let you just ignore that he was caging and deporting families, bombing 7 countries, expanding fossil fuel extraction, assassinating US citizens, letting lobbyists shape Obamacare, bailing out and not investigating Wall Street, imprisoning whistle blowers
The technical debt treadmill
1) Convince people to use your fundamentally broken and unreliable product
2) Use circular financing to buy more compute
3) Improve product by epsilon (some tiny amount)
4) Tell everyone new product solves problems from last cycle
5) Repeat
The recent cybersecurity turn of Anthropic/OpenAI is selling a solution to a problem they create:
"Agentic" code tools built with famously hallucinating LLMs -> an explosion of software riddled with errors, bugs, security flaws, etc.
The solution? More AI, of course! (SuperPremium+ Subscription)
The way I square this circle:
People are broadly aware, on a vibes level, that things *could have been* so much better for them and their loved ones. It was an accident of birth they were born working class and hence need to trade their life for wages, while others get yachts and private jets.
The US economy is largely an AI bubble, so what happens when the supply of chips is disrupted on a larger scale than the supply of oil in Hormuz?
I wonder if China sees this as a moment to, for example, blockade Taiwan...
US leadership is incompetent, has already antagonized the rest of the world, has depleted a lot of its military munitions, already has low domestic approval particularly for starting this war.
How important is Iranian oil for China compared to, say, continuing to let their greatest antagonist humiliate itself and anger the rest of the world?
Young people* don’t vote, easily another decade before this would sway electeds.

Can't tell you how many members of Congress who *at best* had nothing to say when I asked about the Minab girls school attack. There is a profanely cold detachment inside Capitol Hill, a mode completely unrecognizable to common human decency I wish I could properly convey to you.
>40 amino acids in the chain and it's legally a "biological product" which faces more regulations
peptides are anything shorter than that
www.federalregister.gov/documents/20...
Someone who's into them explained it to me as basically a legislative carve out initially for the GLP1 drugs, but which allows lots of stuff to now avoid most drug regulations
