The best bit of Le Mans ‘66 is seeing Ken Miles son in a Villa Shirt. I’ve been a huge fan of Ken for over 40 years, a lad from my part of town, and a genius to boot. Magnificent man 👌🏻
Been spending some time over the past 3 months focusing on horn and Reed players. Taking my in everything from blue note and every kind of jazz to bluebeat and lots of James Brown, with the odd bit of Soul, funk and Northern thrown in. So many great players and so few recognised, loving it 👌🏻
Careful use of penetrating oil, but keep it away from the wood, and patience. Once it’s free a brass wire wheel in the dremel(or a brass suede brush) to clean off the worst of the rust, and see what works. I doubt the threads will be that nice, so gently does it….
There are lots of tricks and things you can do. The best tool of all is patience, and over thinking the problem to be solved. There is always more than one way, and some fixes are much more appropriate than others, it’s all about trying to do the right thing 👌🏻
Works really well, and once it’s cured, you can polish it with micromesh to a high gloss finish, great for filling finish chips too 👍
If you are putting in a new screw, always worth rubbing it on a candle, and taking it slowly. Particularly with hard woods like Maple, mahogany, ash and walnut to name a few. Nice fix though 👌🏻
Nice one !
Ouch!
Fantastic stuff. If you need any help, give me a shout. I’ve done all sorts to bring stuff back from the dead over the years 😂
….thing was I had waxed the screws and was being really really careful, it’s a real pain where everywhere seems to sell really cheap screws. All worked out OK in the end, apart from a slight ding when the body fell off the drying stand 🤷♂️
What you need is the Ed patent small screw remover 😂. When I was making the Walnut Strat I had 2 pick guard screws snap on me 🤦🏻♂️. Made the Ed patent agree remover out of a bit of steel brake pipe, filled the hole with some maple laminate, and tapped the holes a little deeper….
It’s a bit like the saddles on the green ‘un. The ones on it when I had it are single sided, and strings kept going over the edge on big bends, so I ended up filing some down from a crap Strat copy bridge for the top 2 strings. Must have had the replacements 10 years, just never got round to it 😂
There’s nothing like it is there? The green’un hasn’t been my main squeeze since about’94, but everything just feels right about it still. I’ve had my beloved Yairi for 48 years come October. Love them to bits, and always will, nothing quite like it is there?
Not been playing it so much since the pickup surround started to disintegrate, and to be honest, there are much better set up guitars to hand. Brother in law is going to 3D print me some new surrounds, I’ve got some “better” saddles, and need to take a bit of relief out of the neck, but what a noise
Been smashing the mean green machine through an amp this morning. First time in ages. Definitely need to get this sorted and start playing it more often, just such a glorious feeling, and having abused it for so many years, everything just falls into place. Had it over 40 years now 👌🏻
Me three!!!
Bloody second hand caravan salesman making up for all the time his obnoxious ferret face hasn’t been top of the news for the past 5 weeks …..🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
It was a fab gig wasn’t it? I must admit I don’t think I’ve been to a gig where I’ve been almost certain I’ve recognised so many people. Absolutely fabulous atmosphere 👍👍👍👍
My Grandad was in the 1st Battalion Salford Pals. He even gets a mention in God’s Own Battallion, and his letter to the Salford newspaper too. An incredible waste of men. I really hope they find it and have it reinstated somewhere appropriate.
* Spent all day shivering under a blanket with a rotten headache because of tree pollen allergy. Achieved nothing. Pictures from a couple of weeks ago when we had a few days of sunshine….🙄
Filthy oily hand from wrestling with 60 year old motorcycle parts
A bare very battered and rusty BSA motorcycle frame
Decided to take a lesson from a well known person on success.
Today I have been winning biggly in my immaculate restoration to factory specs of my wonderful BSA motorcycle.*
….suppliers, which have made significantly higher profits since 2010. Defence contracting, along with other infrastructure is too important to leave to “market forces” to determine, particularly when those negotiating rarely seem to have experience of these long term obligations.
….in the UK. I would strongly argue that the switch over to a more commercial contracting basis since 2010 has actually been responsible for a large part of our reduction in defence capability, purely because of an ideologically driven approach to defence contracting that has only benefitted….
….seemed to ensure a longer term view of defence spending, meaning a better use of funds on a strategic level for the long term over several administrations. Since 2010 most of this appears to have been abandoned, with a massive reduction in value for money for defence spending…..
Defence spending has become an increasingly hot topic over the past 5 years. However, I’m not seeing much on the basis for defence contracting. In the 80’s to the 2000’s we had a really good defence contracting structure, which really reduced profiteering by defence contractors, and….
I started to use a door in the kitchen a few years ago, got a few on there, but I wish I had kept some of my old ones, but I’ve got a few Specials ones, Ray Davies many times, Lou Reed, Wilko Johnson, and Pop Will Eat Itself, as well as tickets from about 7 race circuits on the door 👍
Old School Rules. Why make life more complicated eh, and better still think of the jobs it would bring back for the kids eh? 👍👍👍 I’ve got a feeling this might be my last paper ticket, unfortunately 🙄
