Making an economic cost comparison of turf vs natural grass fields, given the health and environmental risks, is highly misleading. "An average turf field contains about 125 tonnes of crumb rubber, roughly 20,000..." #vanpoli #bcpoli

Black on grey rectangular bike Odometer with digital numbers and 3 bars. The main number shows the speed of 14.6 km per hour. Beside it is the number 1 (pedal assist setting), and under it is the all-time distance covered of 1,500km. Three bars on the right indicate battery power is at 60%.

I'm a reluctant convert to ebikes. Thought it would mean I get less exercise. Probably has been the opposite. Bought it in February last year. Today, the odo turned 1,500km.

The price of EU Carbon Allowances for December closed at €85. A tad stronger than I predicted.

And in 2025 the federal Liberal govt under Mark Carney dropped its consumer carbon price.

COMMON Briefing
Belém: The COP Of Post-Truth
On the dangerous seduction of empty multilateralism: on why we need to stop performing hope while the planet burns
We're sharing an open letter to our colleagues and friends in the climate community as the COP in Belém ends. We think it's important to speak truth in the so-called "COP of Truth".
Belém, November 22, 2025
A letter to our friends in the climate community
There's a particular strain of climate advocacy that has become not just ineffective, but actively harmful. It's the kind that mistakes theater for action, confuses participation with progress, and celebrates the mere existence of dialogue while the planet burns. We saw it again in Belém, and it demands a reckoning.
We're told to feel moved by presidential speeches. To find something "powerful" in a country simultaneously expanding fossil fuel extraction while claiming climate leadership. To see "complexity" and "journey" where there is simply hypocrisy and moral failure.
This is not complexity. This is cowardice dressed up as pragmatism.
When a leader stands before the world and speaks eloquently about transitioning away from fossil fuels while their government approves new oil drilling, that's not a contradiction we should romanticize. That's not a tension we should find generative. It's a betrayal, plain and simple. And when climate advocates respond with gratitude instead of fury, they become accomplices to that betrayal.
We're asked to understand that leaders "don't have the power" to stop extraction. This framing is insidious because it transforms political choices into inevitable constraints. History has shown that presidents don't lack power: they lack will. They lack courage. They've made a calculation that short-term economic and political interests outweigh the survival of future generations.
Accepting this excuse means accepting that climate action is optional, something to pursue only when convenient, only when it doesn't threaten powerful inter…

Canada not on track to meet 2030 climate targets, report finds MONTREAL — A new analysis says Canada is not on track to meet its 2030 or 2035 emissions targets.

No surprise. Canada's is still expanding its oil & gas complex when it needs to be shrinking. Instead of GHG reductions of 40-45% by 2030, we're now looking at half that. #strandedassets #cdnpoli ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/canada-...

Where does Carney stand on Canada's 2030 climate targets? It's not clear | CBC News CBC Radio’s The House takes a look at whether Canada is on track to meet its climate targets under Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Given Canada's not likely to make its 2030 climate targets, let alone Netzero 2050, this is a welcome, wide-ranging look at where #climate policy in Canada might be heading. Realpolitik, not Science, appears to be in the driving seat. #cdnpoli #bcpoli www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

120 million acres of public lands eligible for sale in SENR budget reconciliation package The bill mandates disposal of over 2 million acres of BLM and National Forest lands; public lands eligible for sale in the bill encompass over 120 million acres, including local recreation areas, wild...

As a fire scientist, my first reaction to these maps is that these places are gonna burn.

Any time you open up public lands to private or communal ownership that does not center fire stewardship of the land, ignitions and fire events increase dramatically.
