Virginians: Today's the last day to vote on an important redistricting measure.

I hope you'll vote YES—for Virginia, and for the entire country.

You have a chance to help level the playing field as Republicans seek an unfair advantage in Congress. Please take it. Get more info: IWillVote.com/VA

This week in 1939, Billie Holiday released "Strange Fruit." A song that still stops you in your tracks, still demands to be heard, and still carries a truth the world must never forget.

Here's the thing: these people DO know this and, just like with the COVID refusal to vax or mask, they don't care. They have relied on others to take precautions to protect them, while indulging in their own fantastical, non-science based "beliefs". It is abelism at its most extreme.

California doesn't need a #Billionaire governor who got rich banking on Trump casinos and For-Profit Private Prisons , we need a fighter for the working class. #KatiePorterforGovenor

When I ran for Congress, I did it differently than most—I didn’t take corporate PAC money. My average contribution in this race is $68; my opponents' are in the thousands.

I want you to know that when I make a decision, I’ll be fighting for you, not special interest donors.

Congressman Robert Garcia is leading the charge to fight back against the Trump Administration in Washington.

As colleagues on the Oversight Committee, we fought tirelessly to hold Donald Trump and special interests accountable for cheating California families and raising costs.

“It’s a couple of things that work beautifully in concert. First: no music. Audiences are so sophisticated, but what they’re not accustomed to is not being told how to feel,” Wyle says. “You take all that out and it forces a level of engagement where you’re now looking for clues within the frame of the screen, which forces you to look up from your phone. And I think that is extremely engaging, especially to young viewers who aren’t accustomed to being asked to participate in a nonpassive way in the viewing experience.

“Second point, shooting it with almost exclusively 50-millimeter or 65-millimeter lenses, which is the most comparable to the human eye—and only shooting from the point of view of a human being that’s present in this space. There are no cameras on gurney wheels going in the hallway. There’s no cameras on the ceiling looking down from a God point of view. You are limited to the perspective of a participant. You can look away, but you can’t leave, and it becomes an endurance test for you to stay on your feet as long as we’re on our feet. Which [brings me to my] third point: real time. Real time has an aggregate sense of tension that you don’t get in any other form of storytelling. What happened before is happening now, and these two things are going to add up to the next thing. And if we throw more ingredients into this cooker and keep ratcheting it up, it’s going to pop.”

Wyle makes eye contact for his next point, delivering it with a Robby-esque matter-of-factness. “Fourth point: The election went the other way,” he says with a shrug. “We could have been a really good show with a lot of nice things to say in a perfectly normal Kamala Harris universe. And instead we became almost a beacon of hope and humanity in an alternative universe. But in the midst of that, fifth point—this is essentially competence porn. You’re watching really smart, dedicated people do what only they know how to do at a level that you don’t know how to do it, and you’re so fucking glad that they’re there doing it, and compartmentalizing their own stuff to put your broken pieces back together. You’re so reassured by knowing that there are people out there that laugh and joke and have the ability to lock in like that.”

What to know about Rice's whale, a rare species in the way of Trump's plans for more Gulf drilling Scientists fear that expanding oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico could push the giant mammal to extinction.

One of the world's rarest whales lives in only one place: the Gulf of Mexico, where the Trump administration wants to expand oil and gas drilling that scientists fear could push the giant mammal to extinction.

King John, visited Scarborough Castle on several occasions and spent significant amounts on the fortress. The work was carried out in two phases: an outer wall to the inner bailey in 1202–6, and the extension of that wall down to the cliff in 1207–12.

This isn't a scene from #StarWars.

What you're looking at is the Tarantula Nebula. While those beams come from the lasers installed on the telescopes that comprise our VLTI.

But why are we sending lasers into the sky? Find out: https://www.eso.org/public/images/potw2616a/

Too many of our kids are getting killed, because of thoughtless assholes like Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson.

This mass shooting today happened in his own district. He said “thoughts and prayers” but did nothing AGAIN.

Remember this when we can take back the House in November.

I found this article quite fascinating. It's not just about the collaose of the Kennedy Center: It's a window into how institutions devoted to the arts work to pivot & keep thriving behind the scenes, even when leadership is sabotaging them.
