Ah! The noble roundness of the white-throated sparrow on display. Big white front, gray dappling, with a bold white throat. The top of its head features black and gold-white bands. It's back -- or is it its top? Do birds have backs or just tops? -- is soft chestnut brown. The beak is short and sharp. To short to poke out an eye, but perhaps long enough to pluck a beard hair or something. The sparrow is on a snowy evergreen branch, with delicate dots of snow all around it. The bird looks quite deep in thought. Perhaps pondering the troubles of a thankless universe. Perhaps just deciding what the bird will poop on next. Photo by me, Chuck Wendig.
