Very pleased to see that @greens.org.au have won an inquiry into job cuts at CSIRO
Would be great to see attention brought to bear on restructuring (cuts?) at the Australian Research Council too
Why these attacks on science in the public interest in Australia❓ Who does this serve❓

Save the CSIRO
Our national science & research agency is now facing more job cuts than under Tony Abbott
Call on the Albanese Govt to fund the scientists & research we need to tackle big issues we face from climate to food security and everything in between

At the risk of being inundated with agro that I don't need... I am looking for THOUGHTFUL comments on whether #publichealth measures to control covid may have increased extremism. But, I feel that there was already a rise in Sovereign Citizens, conspiracy theories etc well before then....
Any rumours or whispers on DECRA outcomes release? I note it could be any day now.
Dropping #TobaccoTax will not reduce #IllicitTrade. Empowering States and Territories to swiftly shut down retailers engaging in illicit tobacco trade is likely to be far more effective. @coralgartner.bsky.social @chenealpuljevic.bsky.social

Queensland landlords could soon face jail for ignoring illegal tobacco. What are other states doing?

Very good to see Mark Butler reappointed Health Minister, as well as Minister for Disability. An impressive, thoughtful and well-informed Health Minister who understands the role of prevention, makes things happen, and is willing to take on harmful industries to benefit the public health.
Wow - so bizarre seeing a high income country deliberately remove all the modern standards that have improved life expectancy and reduced preventable diseases.
It is shocking, because Pubmed has been such as an authoritative source for such a long time :'-(
It has just occurred to me that I no longer have the same level of trust and confidence in PubMed and US NIH material as I have had for the past 29 years....

Retail outlets already or will soon need to have a licence to sell cigarettes. But there aren’t restrictions on the number of licensed outlets.

Janet, you also have always provided generous and constructive reviews that focus on improving the final piece ☺️
Good times ahead.... if you are a virus or bacterium
Make polio, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, meningococcal, HPV, Hep A&B, varicella and TB great again! Maybe they can even bring back smallpox with some dedicated research funding to revive diseases eliminated by vaccination?!
Shout out to peer-reviewers who give detailed reviews with goodwill. Fantastic meticulous reviewer recently- many points to address, but final paper soooo much better. I wish I could add them as a co-author or at least buy them lunch. This is how #academia / #research should be! TY (whoever you are)
Oh my! Thank you! 😊
Smoking kills.
It’s a message most people will have heard. But just how much does smoking affect life expectancy?
In a new editorial, we estimate that on average, each cigarette steals approximately 20 minutes of life.

UK lawmakers voted 415-47 in favor of nicotine-free generation law. If finalized the law will make it illegal for anyone currently aged 15 or younger to ever buy cigarettes in the UK.

Sadly the impact of predicted drop in preventive healthcare (vaccinations, fluoridation etc) is likely to persist well beyond the next 4 years.
South Australia may create a #smokefree generation, setting an example for the rest of Australia. 🚭
