Screenshot of a highlight in Readwise from Neil Postman's "Amusing Ourselves to Death" reading: "This is an instance in which the asking of the questions is sufficient. To ask is to break the spell. To which I might add that questions about the psychic, political and social effects of information are as applicable to the computer as to television. Although I believe the computer to be a vastly overrated technology, I mention it here because, clearly, Americans have accorded it their customary mindless inattention; which means they will use it as they are told, without a whimper. Thus, a central thesis of computer technology—that the principal difficulty we have in solving problems stems from insufficient data—will go unexamined. Until, years from now, when it will be noticed that the massive collection and speed-of-light retrieval of data have been of great value to large-scale organizations but have solved very little of importance to most people and have created at least as many problems for them as they may have solved."

Wait, for you it doesn't immediately recalibrate and starts seeing all possible tasks of the next, slightly lower significance as the ones that should be flooding the queue completely? Huh.

This is the important part though. The way a story does it, and the kind and intensity of feelings it evokes, are the things that people take issue with. Beyond that, it's just a matter of being able to better articulate what you like or dislike. Most people don't think about what a story "is".

We switched from Milestone to XP when we switched to an entirely player-driven campaign style. It was mostly me pushing that a the DM. There was some pushback initially, but overall, I think it made sense.

That campaign is on hold rn though.

Glad you enjoyed it! And yeah, since playing this I'm definitely itching to go out and collect some rocks.

It also made me trying to constantly come up with ways to use physical objects for randomness in a game. One day I'll have time to work on "A Leaf of Absence", I'm sure.

When you're searching for images of actors to see how they look now, at what point in the year do you switch from adding the previous year to the current one?

Just from reading, this is awesome stuff. Lots of things that would be beneficial for my workflow and also things I had thought about previously (albeit to a lesser degree of completeness). Really wish I had more time to dig into this right now.

As someone who saw this in a retweet for the first time right now, what‘s the best place to start understanding what‘s going on here?

It's Just Another Day In 'Paradise' Cover Song Hell Paradise is a good show. I have to get that out of the way early, because I do think that it’s fun and well-plotted and knotted with enough twists to sustain a strong momentum throughout its eight-epi...

Mythic Bastionland has the concept of shield- and spearwalls where 3 or more knights can work together. There's also the concept of warbands, which are diegetically larger than just the party, but are still controlled by them.

(Screenshots are from the free quickstart so okay to share I think.)

with all the deskilling and gell-manning (etc) we're gonna get from automated thinking machines, now is the time for the 'tools for thought' crowd to make tools that help you think things through for yourself.

tools to do *more* hard thinking.

it should feel effortful. cherish that feeling.

Congcats! Clayton has done an incredible job this year, but can't help but expect 2027 to be the most technically sophisticated Bloggies ever now.

This new video essay by @thomasflight.nebula.tv on the role extras play in movies pairs perfectly with this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwUr...

Love this trend(?) of essays on the less obvious things that impact how a film feels to watch.

Sounds like a great way to handle that part. Will the book version be available in Germany in March as well, or will I still have to wait some time before I can force all my non-TTRPG playing friends to play it? (I actually think it might be a good "cross over" game)

We played a quick session of "Oh Captain, My Captain!" afterwards btw., where we imagined the captain of our generation ship. Really great pairing!

Thanks for making the game! I was really impressed with how well it played and how even with "just" the 2 x 6 prompts for the planet's features, it lead to wildly different results. Having the physical object as a reference and inspiration really worked very well as a prompt-multiplier.
