Art is fundamentally a form of communication. It's empty when there's no intent behind the words. The greatest harm AI has done is in undermining the basic trust we have that there is intent behind the art, and there's no going back from that, but we *can* make our intent sing louder.

fun fact: .5% of all spells cast on crabs turn into more crabs. some asexual species of mimics have evolved to take advantage of this fact, although the mimic and crab communities are divided on how to label the results

You'd think people stealing my content would at least *try* to be creative when renaming the story. Wtf is "the mana infusion quest"? He's not on a quest! The point is he already has mana! And trauma! *Mostly trauma!*

How do I *very politely* say "if you make me feel bad in my comments section, it makes me not want to read my comments section, and I would prefer to keep interacting with my fans"

"marketing" does not have to be perfect. mind you, some understanding of who you want to engage with your work is always good, and i'm not saying marketing should be ignored. but i do think that, in the majority of cases, there are more benefits to a human hand than a mechanical one.

but i do also think this is somewhat indicative of how writing is often viewed, consciously or otherwise, as the less creative of the arts and so not part of the project, per se. but do consider that ai generation often loses a lot of the passion you would otherwise have for your project.

disclaimer: i don't think ai generated writing should be "called out." even if you have a lot of evidence, there's a good chance that once presented, that evidence gets misconstrued and simplified as "x or y trait means the work is ai," which is what happened with em dashes and such

you can get pretty good at reliably noticing ai generated writing, but then you realize how many people have resorted to ai generation to, say, write their comics or kickstarter campaigns or for the most basic social media interactions

Excerpt from Just Add Mana:

He beamed. "I knew stealing all those notes was worth it. A lot of aspiring dark lords end up making notes on this stuff. Also, there was this pair of very friendly liches that were really eager to share their notes... huh. Now that I think about it, they were a little too friendly. I wonder if they were trying to steal my soul."

Cale's brow furrowed for a moment, and Damien opened his mouth to ask a question. Cale barreled right on before he could.

"Nevermind," he said. "I think they were swingers. Not important!"

Kazza's jaw worked helplessly for a moment as he tried to figure out what to say before he eventually just turned to Flia. "Is he always like this?"

"When he's not depressed," Flia said dryly. "You're seeing the real reason we became his apprentices."

"...Because he is apparently desired by the blasphemous undead?" Kazza asked, not understanding.

Liches get a bad rep.

Yeah. I think being able to examine intent in general is also just crucial to *expressing* intent. It's a good writing exercise. Early on my writing was very "throw a character into the world and pilot them like a video game", but that doesn't lend itself well to examining things without extra work.

Just Add Mana The more lives you've lived, the more mana you have, and Cale has lived too many lives to count. At this point, his core is closer to the magical equivalent of a nuclear reactor. The downside to this ...

New story launched! Come check out Just Add Mana (which abbreviates to JAM, a fact that will not come back to haunt me, probably.)

JAM loredump #1: magic academies function as probability traps that (in most cases) contain fate-related magic from spiraling out of hand. this is because they constantly have disasters anyway
