WIP, rough draft snippet: "Bryan watched as the boar came out of the underbrush. His dueling sword, was the wrong weapon for this situation but the animal was too close to use his crossbow effectively. Fortunately, the boar did not immediately charge. Bryan took a deep breath and tried to focus."
FUCK ICE!
That is all.
Happy Friday folks.
Hey, thanks for the mention and I'm grateful to be included.
4/?: At least as a yeoman he was free to leave the manor unlike the serfs who were considered to be part of the lord's property.
3/?: He hadn’t even been able to grab his cloak before he needed to run. There was a definite chance of having his yeoman status revoked and then being forced to work the lord's fields in chains along with the other serfs.
2/?: He had just enough time to throw his crafter's book, healer’s kit, and supposed spell book into his backpack with a bit of travel gear after Conal the miller's boy had warned him the men-at-arms were coming. Other than that Lee just had his clothes and eating knife.
1/?: He looked into his empty purse before reattaching it to his belt. The lord's men had already come to remove him from the tenancy for failure to pay the rents and taxes owed. Not like he had anything to pay them with since his position as a scribe had been given to the lord's younger cousin.
Prices will change after August 4, 2025. Existing creators with published pages will not see any increase. We’re consolidating our pricing to a standard 10% platform plan + applicable taxes and standardizing our payment processing fees for creators who publish a creator page after August 4, 2025. If your creator page is published before or on Monday, August 4th, 2025, your pricing plan will not increase. You can lock in a legacy pricing plan by publishing your creator page before or on August 4th, 2025. To keep legacy platform pricing, your creator page must remain published after August 4th, 2025 — if you unpublish your page or if Patreon unpublishes your page for any reason, you’ll be subject to Patreon’s new, standard 10% plan + applicable taxes and payment processing fees. Get the details about this change and what to expect as an existing or new creator by visiting our guide on the upcoming pricing changes.

The most many people can hope for is a sleeping pod in a shared living space and enough money and food to make it to the next work shift.
"Rights" exist in equal measure to your own socio-economic power.
The homeless are sent to labor camps until they can prove they are no longer homeless. Debtors' prison was brought back. Civil rights exist only at the whim of the state.
The "humanoid" species: Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, and Gnomes at least supposedly have legalized rights.
The Elves' former slave species: Orcs, Hobgoblins, Goblins, and Duende have more questionable legal standing.
The population of the Earth was reduced to less than 3 billion, and no longer was all of that population human.
Elves turned out to be just as greedy, ruthless, and sociopathic as humans had been. And their three century-long lives let them accumulate more power and wealth.
"Down And Out In Dystopia" isn't a story I'm writing -- it's a setting.
After roughly a millennia of being gone from the world, magic and magical creatures have returned. But that heralded over a century of wars, pandemics, and mass death.
Just been dealing with a lot lately.

9 Jun 2025 Writing Prompt: " 'You always start with killing rats in a cellar. You end with slapping gods in the face. Then when all is said and done, you're the villain in someone else's story. Why would I ever want to be an adventurer?' "

I would welcome the Balrog at this point. As long as it made the end quick.
We are called to do our creative work, and it is a call we cannot ignore. But then there is survival. When we can get those two callings to meet it is glorious but when we cannot.... Well, something always has to give.
It's a light at the end of this tunnel that's not an oncoming train.
This is literally why I gave up on trying to be a writer in the early 1990s and joined the army instead.
