American Comic industry has a craft problem. The strict timelines and low pay make it impossible in many cases for creatives to do their best work. Craft isn’t valued the way it is in European or Japanese comics by the publishers, or else isn’t understood, and it is 100% holding the industry back.

If comic artists were paid minimum wage, they would be paid about 600x more than they currently are
