For me, it's about continuing to examine the space that exist in lessons outside of the language objectives - skills, culture, representation - and how we can make our lessons engaging and rewarding without losing sight of our primary function: teaching English.

Good question from BRAZ-TESOL MAWSIG! I'd love to know what your materials writing goal is for the upcoming year.

Lessons from my Pilates teachers I’ve been attending Pilates lessons twice a week for some time now. The studio I go to offers various time slots and instructors, but over time, I’ve settled on two favourites: Maureen and Elise. Reflecting on why I gravitate towards them has led me to think about two aspects of teaching. Maureen is extroverted, outgoing, funny, and chatty, and I enjoy her personality even though she’s very different to me.

In retro fashion like @theteacherjames.com refers to within, I'm sharing his blog post on social media because I read it, it's good, and doing so builds community. This is the type of past I'm good with revisiting.

Descending Into The Metaverse Image by Hans from Pixabay I've been using social media as a form of professional development for about as long as social media has existed, so I always have a lot of thoughts about the way that we use it professionally as well as personally. Like a lot of people, I have a love-hate relationship with it nowadays because while there are things that I still enjoy about it, I haven't been entirely happy with the landscape for quite a while.

I was motivated to write a blog post about social media & professional development by the announcement that Zuⓒkэrberǧ made yesterday about how he'll be moderating content from now on. In summary: I’m not impressed, and I’m not sure what it means for us.

Maybe we can start building it back. It's worth a shot!

#eltchat was never adequately replaced, and I think we've become more isolated. So forgive me for wandering onto BlueSky and feeling 2012 nostalgia. If you were there, you'll know what I mean, and if you missed it, trust me, we can build something better.

As it fell out of fashion and Facebook and Instagram took over, I think our community suffered. Neither platform was suitable for interactive sharing and support on the level we had before, LinkedIn has been a bit better but still isn't as good, and I miss what we had.

No spam, no ads, no smut, and so far, no N@zis. Hopefully this will continue and who knows, maybe we can build an ELT community over there, like we used to have on Twitter.
I've been missing the kind of interactions we had back in the day.

I left Twitter a couple of years ago when M*sk took it over, and its slow and inevitable death rattle seems to have picked up pace in the last couple of weeks for obvious reasons. Like a lot of people I've been checking out BlueSky, and so far, I'm impressed.
