New video on Interface Studies. On window manages, alternatives to traditional desktops, and how linux communities are leading the change. youtu.be/ARjisP9enZ4?...
So @farisattieh.bsky.social, who dreamt up House of Hikmah, sent this to me with a big crying emoji and it's so cool to see the game ripple through media. It does leave a glaring hole - I do really wish Western media, who control Metacritic and all that, would hold more space for non-Western stories
Love the title typography
Such great momentum to this page. Sterte's great at sound effects sometimes. Screentones beautiful also
Loved how the captioning in the nature documentary sequences is in the gutters. Incredible colours here, also
The armour designs here are SO COOL
No. 18
A Garden of Spheres vol. 1:
Impossible not to be awestruck for all 329 pages of this. Completely mesmerising colour work & many a perfect drawing by Sterte. I knew there would be Le Guin-esque stuff, but a lot of this was very Frank Herbert in its scale & off-handedness. Cool contrast
I've been saying this
Laughed when I saw this. Imagine this team member popping up on everyone's screen every 30 secs for no reason. Or if anyone barely glances at an asset.
I'm glad I haven't had to touch Unity in a long time.
I think there was also a website or web article that catalogued various human metrics, such as perception of visual lag, input responsiveness, but also ranges of physical movements, etc, but I can't recall or find it.
Does anyone remember what it was?
Game Feel by Steve Swink covers topics like this, along with some demos (not sure if they are still updated).

The decline of chaise lounges (or fainting couches) in homes is responsible for much of the modern epidemics of neck & backaches and heart burn/acid reflux, in my wholly unscientific opinion.

I decided one day to use the inverse of the Golden Ratio (1/1.618... = 0.618...) for UI delays for no particular reason and it just felt right.
I'm old enough to remember when software just opened and then you could start working.
Now it's: wait, checking for updates, installing updates (wait I didn't want to install an update), checking for updates, please login, ask for 2FA code, login to 2FA app, verify email, why did I open this again?
What do you think the largest bundle of game assets in the world costs?
$30 million?
$500,000?
7 kidneys?
$30,000,000 again?
How about $19.95! 🤑

My guess is these are the same people who will look at or use AI gen stuff and then delegate to someone else to "clean it up a bit and it should be good to go".
@imakegam.es 😂
I seriously considered the AWD Volvos for the snowboarding trips before I finally decided on the A6.
I can already imagine an indie dev signing a deal with a publisher, only to find out months later that the latter simply used AI to develop a marketing strategy and materials for it, rather than making the effort to understand and tailor the marketing for the community the game was made for.
Well-deserved congrats to KPop Demon Hunters but also I'm going to say it's crazy that I got to work briefly with Chris Appelhans at Black Isle ~20+ years ago.
Ah, the Modern Capitalist Product Manager.

Photo shows a sketchbook sitting open on a wooden desk easel. The sketchbook shows a painting created with gouache paint, an opaque watercolor medium. The painting depicts a nature scene of a pathway between large redwood trees on a sunny day with bright light shining through green leaves.

imo playtesting should be in service of your vision, not deciding what the vision should be

> Open-source game engine Godot is drowning in 'AI slop' code contributions: 'I don't know how long we can keep it up'
You'll get different definitions at different studios but here's mine: a person who helps individual contributors (ICs) and leads work with each other to make workflows better/easier/[Radiohead voice] more productive. They should be like oil: reducing friction and energy required to get things done.
Hey, @adobe.com, my name is John Cooney. I would like to help convert Animate into an open-source product
I've spent decades making games, gave the Flash Games Postmortem (and the second one!) at GDC, ran Armor Games, was part of your Youth Voices program, and did your roundtables (for free!) <3
