Saw my first mourning cloak butterfly, spring is finally here!

Flat, illustrated poster graphic of a Florida Scrub-Jay in flight titled "I'm worth more than 100 tech bros!"
btw we do mean this very sincerely. the bsky team wanted a haven for technofascist consolidation but they failed to account for how many furries work in IT and how much overlap there is between furries and various marginalized communities, we truly think this is a factual read of the early days
the foundational concept of Bluesky was to create a space for tech bros by using invite only for a span
the foundational reality of Bluesky is that invites became life rafts for queers fleeing Twitter by way of furries
nobody working for Bluesky has ever forgiven this
This whole debacle really showcases the structural problems with Bluesky as a platform.
Rather than develop good infrastructure detached from users - like flexibility of seeing feeds, strong moderation options, etc. - it is all attached to individual accounts and users.
The issue with someone admitting they use ChatGPT to write interpersonal messages is that now I have zero way to know if 2% or 99% of it is actually their own thoughts and words. It just destroys trust in a way autocorrect or spellcheck doesnβt.
We already had some of the worst air quality in the country in Memphis and now the mechahitler factory is only making it worse and worse

This is the difference between tech bros today and software developers of yore. The old developers had to care about the users because to be a user was to be a customer. People purchased software packages. Between ads, venture capital, and whales, the users are the last thing anyone cares about.
I'm not even anti AI, I'm just pro quality and if that makes you see me as the adversary, perhaps you should start looking at the work you do
Having one AI hallucination in a work is kind of like having one human finger in your chili. Even if you take it out, the existence of it is evidence that you're doing the entire process wrong.
Palantir: National service should be a universal duty. We should, as a society, seriously consider moving away from an all-volunteer force and only fight the next war if everyone shares in the risk and the cost. Translation: Weβre going to bring back the draft. Our vision of permanent war only works if we courageously volunteer people 40 years younger than us to die for oil.
Palantir: Some cultures have produced vital advances; others remain dysfunctional and regressive. All cultures are now equal. Criticism and value judgments are forbidden. Yet this new dogma glosses over the fact that certain cultures and indeed subcultures . . . have produced wonders. Others have proven middling, and worse, regressive and harmful. Translation: Which cultures? Oh, you know the ones.
We translated each part of Palantir's 22-point manifesto because public service is our passion

This is the thing, if "academia" wanted to stop this, we could easily tomorrow. Over 3 incorrect references? Rejected and forbidden to submit next year.
The purpose of a system is what it does!
In addition to being on the AI Haters list, I am also on a list "wrong about AI/Bitcoin/VR probably other things" and also "loves intellectual property" π
It is giving a very early noughties 'moderators joining in a flame war then getting the ban hammer out when it doesn't go how they wanted' vibe.
I'm so sorry, you gave him the best life π
are there so many dog photos that bluesky can not load them all
True! Sorry I wasn't trying to say otherwise, just thinking out loud about the various knife-related injuries and close calls I've had over the years π knives vs guns, not even a contest for actual danger!
My point is even that small degree of friction is helpful from a safety point of view. Much like the safety on a gun, both can still be misused if someone is determined. But it might prevent a stupid injury, and that ain't nothing (at least to me)
I can't speak to all assisted knives but the one I've used was not easy from the get-go. Many friends struggled with it after watching me use it, thinking it would be easy lol
I think there's also a safety element there, as spring release can be a bit TOO easy to release sometimes. Assisted-release is a good compromise but they get equally-negative reactions because when you get good at using them one-handed, people assume it's a real switchblade sigh
Last night, after an hours-long public hearing, Monterey Park became the first city in California to pass an ordinance permanently banning data centers.
The city council voted unanimously to declare data centers a public nuisance, and to "prohibit all data centers within city limits."
My story:
Yikes brother put a rainbow on that thing or something!
@hamiltonnolan.bsky.social says that they're thirsty for praise about how good and smart they are and basically throwing a tantrum because everybody hates them- I think that's about right

Wild to keep hearing anti-AI sentiment described as an "echo chamber" by people who pretend there's never been a coercive dogshit marketing campaign actively pissing people off about it for two years or any no-opt-out half-baked shovelware making everyone's PCs and phones worse
At some point this stuff stopped being fun tie in easter egg shit and became homework
Not the point but the way she misspelled Irulan is pissing me off π Just so on brand for her
Next time someone asks me if I'd ever move out to Alberta, I'm telling them that the infant to adult ratio is just too high
The Canadian Press attended and took photos and recorded video of the event.
In the full video, Carney does not make the comments attributed to him in the clip, nor does he discuss Alberta separatism at any point.
NEVER COMPLY IN ADVANCE
