Ready for some Monday morning scares. Now seated for #Hokum.

#Erupcja is such a bisexual vibe. Short, sweet, and well-constructed, with a great performance from Charli XCX. I'm here for it. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social: wehotimes.com/erupcja-movi...
#Departures is a real charmer with loads of earnestness to it, but it sorta gets in its own way with an overbearing voice-over and all of the on-screen doodling. Still, a worthwhile endeavor. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social: wehotimes.com/departures-m...
I went in blind, and it was very much my jam. I hope you love it, too!
#Obsession is a feral, twisted love story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. A vicious blend of comedy and horror that turns both genres on their head. Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette are brilliant. Full review coming later, but this is a savage delight.
Hopefully, this afternoon’s screening will be my new OBSESSION.
#Exit8: There is comfort in the familiar, and Genki Kawamura finds the terror and danger in change and the unexpected — a relatable element of the human experience. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social: wehotimes.com/exit-8-movie...
#FacesOfDeath relies on sluggish copycat tropes, and it’s never scary, thrilling, or as gory as it should be. My full review via @wehotimes.bsky.social:

#TheSuperMarioGalaxyMovie is barely a movie to begin with. It’s low-brow entertainment with no ambition beyond selling more product. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social: wehotimes.com/the-super-ma...
Now seated for #TheSuperMarioGalaxyMovie. Review coming soon to WeHo Times!
#TwoProsecutors is underdeveloped in what it wants to say, but it's successful in how it wants to make you feel. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social: wehotimes.com/two-prosecut...
#Alpha feels deeply personal, which makes it all the more disappointing that it's encapsulated in a vexing AIDS allegory. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social:

#undertone knows the eerie breadcrumbs to lay and the third-act chaos it wants to unleash, but it doesn’t really figure out how to drum it up into something actually scary. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social:

Please, scare me. Now seated for #undertone.
#TheBrideMovie: We’ve never seen The Bride like this, and it’s the kind of brazen swing that Hollywood needs more of. Unfortunately, strong messaging and themes lose their impact behind a mess of too many generic subplots. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social: wehotimes.com/the-bride-mo...
Here comes #TheBrideMovie. Review coming soon!
“Symbolic power is a power of constructing reality.” - Pierre Bourdieu
The world just keeps getting bleaker and bleaker.
For this morning’s screening, I’m getting lost in #Exit8.
Emerald Fennell’s #WutheringHeightsMovie is a treacherous seesaw power struggle seeped in sensationalized romantic smoldering with seduction. It’s less of a swoon-worthy romance and more of a love-obsessed psychological tragedy. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social: wehotimes.com/wuthering-he...
#Pillion: The film’s unapologetic, nonjudgmental approach to the world of gay kink-forward relationships is admirable. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social: wehotimes.com/pillion-movi...
#WutheringHeightsMovie is a sumptuous feast for the romantic in us all. Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi’s chemistry is divine. It’s a little long and patchy, but it’s easy to get caught in its web. Anthony Willis’s score & Charli XCX’s songs are major. Stunning cinematography.
This morning’s screening is #WutheringHeights.
#ReturnToSilentHill: Instead of getting lost in this psychological labyrinth, its lack of impact lands with an unfortunately hollow thud. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social: wehotimes.com/return-to-si...
How did REDUX REDUX start with such an awesome festival poster, yet end up with the most boring and generic poster imaginable? Really dug the movie, though, and you should absolutely see it when it comes out in February.
I’m counting down my top 10 movies of 2025 (plus 10 more special mentions) over at @wehotimes.bsky.social. Had to make some tough cuts, but I’m happy with where I landed.

#ThePlague is more of a dramatic thriller than an outright horror film, but it’s a suffocating experience that blurs the line between them. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social: wehotimes.com/the-plague-m...
#TheTestamentOfAnnLee: The egregious use of narration strips the story of dramatic revelations, refusing to interrogate Ann’s spirituality, intention, or her hypocrisies. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social: wehotimes.com/the-testamen...
#AvatarFireAndAsh: Spectacle continues to operate on an unparalleled level, but the growing franchise should allow the narrative to evolve. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social: wehotimes.com/avatar-fire-...
#IsThisThingOn is a humble dramedy with an authentic heart wrapped in an unremarkable casing. My review via @wehotimes.bsky.social: wehotimes.com/is-this-thin...
I officially started a complete ALIEN novel franchise read through of “top-tier canon,” in timeline chronological order. I’ve been itching to do this for a long time.
