For folks who work with network code. UDP be like:

There will come a time in your game development journey where you will feel the need to make a Kaiju or Mech game. It is natural and beautiful.

Micro transaction Jesus is certainly a 2026 thing. I wonder how much the season pass is going for.

Screenshot of Wiretext, a browser-based wireframe tool displaying a low-fidelity dashboard mockup with monospaced ASCII-style components including KPI cards, a line chart, a channel breakdown panel, and a data table. The left panel shows layers and the right panel shows an inspector.
I'm absolutely fascinated by this tool that lets you build wireframes using text elements, ASCII art style.
I've seen wireframes in excel, powerpoint, on paper, but this is a first. Still, it's actually quite efficient and exportable. Love it!

A meme of Blex from magic the gathering depicting a candle lit vigil. It says "in loving memory of Blex, vexing pest, beloved father and valued pest."
I just found out that my boy blex died in the battle against the phyrexians.
Pour one out.
A picture of a library shelf with a small rolled up note on it. The note says “read this” in child’s handwriting.
A picture of the note unrolled. In the same child’s handwriting it reads “beware of the future!!”
Still thinking about this note I found in the children’s section of the public library when I worked there back in 2018. This kid tried to warn us…

Terrible idea
Hidden object game, but in a "terms and services".

A picture of George Lucas with the caption "Pretty crazy how important the blockade of a trade route is right now"
A card from the new magic the gathering strixhaven set. 1 red 1 blue, instant, deals 3 damage and tap target creature
This feels more versatile than lightning helix. I guess healing salve really isn't good enough of an effect for one mana.
Man! I haven't thought about wild wild quest in a looong time.
Screenshot of Elmo next to his pet's fishbowl in Elmo's World. The subtitles say "We. Dorothy's been thinking abou and down to what’s her daughter."
four birds in a cartoon from Sesame Street, with the caption reading "Oh, shit"
Another Sesame Street cartoon saying "Oh shit"
Screenshot of Big Bird in Hooper’s Store with live human Alan and a flying red bird. The subtitles read: "Time for the birth of terror. Me"
Do not watch Sesame Street on Tubi with the subtitles on 😭. I swear, I didn't edit or add anything. Is it hilarious? Yes, but also, they need to fix this immediately. Absolutely incomprehensible and bad
We finally know why Prof. Smith is always irritated.
I think you need yelp.
I have a few more that rattle around in my head as I listen to you talk that I sometimes write down but these have been at the forefront of my mind recently.
I'm also curious to hear thoughts about rubber banding and learning through failure. E.g. situational answers that get better from behind, mechanics that create comeback windows naturally or what makes a comeback feel earned rather than artificial?
!!! I'd love to hear your thoughts about the shifting identity of sorceries. As the game progresses effects of sorceries end up on instants or triggered abilities. So, what is the sorcery identity now? As a design tool is it a nice way to experiment with effects to powerful for other card types?
I absolutely love the podcast. I've listened to about half of the episodes so far!
The difficult part about this is how many marketing / c-suite people you have to push back against.
They seem to have a low option of a player's ability and attention span. Why not trust them instead?
The reason players probably didn't play your last game was cause it didn't respect their time.
Having developed PBS kids games I know first hand that tutorials that just focus on dumbing down the gameplay without showing the player what's interesting absolutely bomb at playtests and release.
Why wouldn't you want to show off the cool stuff your game can do?

The coolest takeaway I had from the history of Mtg design podcast is that they shifted how they on-boarded new players and designed tutorials:
Less "how simple can we make it"
More "how interesting can we make it"
All games should do that.

Did I just finish a 4 hour podcast series about the history of Magic The Gathering design by @maro254.bsky.social?
Yes. And i’d do it again.
New design already covered by current design. Marked as duplicate.
For this week's blog we talk a bit about a game we designed for PBS Kids!
Obi wan saying "Well, of course I know him. He's me."
For the record:
A screenshot from 30 rock with Liz Lemon saying "I don't care! I'll start my own group! Rejection from society is what created the X-Men"

"I can't open vector graphics files" girl, that's on you
I don't think we're living up to the FIFA peace prize, y'all.
