It’s official! The circuit court just ordered the City Council special election to be on April 21. Candidate names are due by 5pm this Friday, February 27.

Now we just need to figure out what is going on with the referendum…

Things I love (other than voting): UVA, celebrating women, and anything that throws shade at a certain non-Jesuit Catholic institution. Are there other sports things happening today?

Del Ray all day! I don’t do gluten, and I *love* Matt & Tony’s. Plus we have a couple antique spots as noted.

But Old Town is great for both too. Ada’s and Josephine have good gf options. Van Bommel is my favorite antique shop there, but there are many to stumble on (plus other just cute spots).

If the referendum passes, Alexandria will still be entirely within the 8th District and, according to Beyer’s press release today, will still see our incumbent Congressman on every Dem ballot

For the election weary, no school board members declared for the City Council seat. So 4/21 will be the last election until the primary… which the legislature looks to be pushing to August 4 (for both House and Senate)

Everyone in the City has a vested interest in getting those two elections aligned because administering an election is 💰💰💰. These specials are well north of $100k, and even more with 45 days of early voting.

As Mayor Gaskins has said, they’re going to file the vacancy resolution to get the City Council race on that ballot. I believe in everyone but those timelines are TIGHT

Due to the construction, City Hall precinct is “Old Town South” voting at Lyles-Crouch starting on Tuesday.

This was an emergency move because of the special election. City Council will vote at Tuesday evening’s meeting to make it “permanent”?for the duration of construction.

Lots more Alexandria election news from today

🗳️🗳️🗳️Big news from today’s Alexandria Electoral Board meeting: Blessed Sacrament no longer wants to serve as a polling location. According to city records, voters have been casting ballots there since at least August 27, 1963.

They have asked that next Tuesday’s special election be their last.

That Trainor did this is surprising to no one. But saying it out loud as part of a campaign strategy to win over MAGA voters after Trump endorses someone else says a lot about where we are right now

I would love for skeptics to actually attend their local electoral board meetings. Alexandria’s is meeting Friday at 9:30am. #tellyourfriends
